If you are looking for the best all-inclusive resorts (sun or ski), let me introduce you to Club Med! I was incredibly fortunate to be invited to experience Club Med Gregolimano for myself, giving me invaluable first-hand experience of this magnificent resort, as well as an introduction to the Club Med spirit. Location Club Med Gregolimano boasts an exceptional location on the island of Evia, Greece's second-largest island, just a short boat ride from mainland Greece. On arrival to Athens airport, we were transferred by coach (approx 2 hours) and a short boat trip to the island. I immediately fell in love with this beautiful location. The sun shone on the water, which was crystal clear. An uncrowded private beach stretched on in the distance and a pine forest and mountain provided a stunning back drop. A number of jetties and beach hut hinted at the range of watersports here. I was eager to explore and to see what this resort offered for my clients. Activities The resort offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for guests of all ages. Each Club Med resort includes a range of activities that cater to both beginners and seasoned athletes, with a team of expert instructors. Some resorts like Club Med Gregolimano offer the best jet skiing, whilst others have their very own trapeze! I can see that Club Med Gregolimano would be great fun for all, including families, and whilst it is very chilled, there is a lovely vibe and so much to do. The sports activities on offer are second to none. There are opportunities for parents and children to do activities together (family tennis tournaments etc.), which is a lovely touch. Over the following number of days I took part in a padel lesson, a tennis tournament, a sailing lesson plus a pilates class. Jo Wilfred Tsonga was hosting tennis activities that week. The water here is very calm and the perfect location for water sports. I unfortunately did not get to experience stand up paddle boarding or jet skiing as time did not permit. There were aqua aerobics classes in the main pool and people of all ages doing dance lessons. Archery, cycling, fitness classes, yoga etc. are also scheduled, so there is something for everyone. I found the staff were all really friendly and engaging. At night, the fun was amplified. There was a DJ and the dance floor was full until after midnight. There are optional day trips, including open top jeep tours, tours to Athens or boat trips. We took a boat trip and stopped for a swim. On the way back we had a wander around a local village. There is also a desk at the hotel where you can hire a car to explore the area independently. A Relaxing Experience for Adults There is a zen pool if you prefer to relax and read a book or just chill. You can unwind with a treatment at the spa. It has a beautiful garden with plus loungers to relax afterwards. Along the beach you will find sun loungers and plenty of space. At the beach bar there are bean bags and a DJ plays chilled music at sunset. It was a great place to have a cocktail and socialise before going for dinner. Children’s and Teen Clubs Club Med is very inclusive for guests of all ages. This brand is known for its excellent children’s facilities. From babies to teenagers, every member of the family can enjoy their holiday in their own unique way. At Club Med Gregolimano the childrens area is expansive, like a mini village and in a beautiful setting. The Petit Club Med (for children aged 2-4) offers a safe and stimulating environment where the youngest guests can engage in age-appropriate activities like arts and crafts, storytelling, and outdoor adventures. For older children, the Mini Club Med (4 years +) offers a wide variety of activities that cater to different interests, from sports and games to cultural exploration and nature activities. These clubs provide children with the opportunity to make new friends while parents enjoy some downtime, knowing their little ones are having the time of their lives in a safe and supervised environment. For tweens and teens, the Teens Club Med (11 -13 years) and Chill Pass Club Med (14 - 17 years), offer a wide range of recreational, artistic and social activities to choose from. The resort organizes special events, beach parties, and sports tournaments designed to give teens the freedom to enjoy themselves in a laid-back atmosphere. Dining Club Med usually have 2 restaurants to choose from (some resorts have another gourmet option). The Main Restaurant offers live cooking stations and an international menu with fresh, local ingredients. The culinary team focuses on providing high-quality meals that are both nutritious and indulgent. La Gourmandise is the resort’s gourmet a la carte restaurant, where guests can enjoy a more refined dining experience with Mediterranean-inspired dishes, again made from local ingredients. The food was really good. The standard and offerings each day was fantastic. There was always something different to choose. It is clear that love and care has gone into the preparation of the food and that it was all made fresh, using local ingredients. The Greek salads and foods were lovely. The a la carte restaurant is also open during the day for brunch/lunch with stunning sea views. Accommodation Club Med Gregolimano has three different accommodation areas: The main hotel (where I stayed) with a balcony and sea view. The Olympe Quarter which comprises a cluster of small buildings dotted throughout the resort, some only steps from the sea. And the Pine Grove. The new villas are fabulous. We travelled before memorial weekend in May and found the parks to be quiet midweek but busier leading up to the weekend. • The parks get busier at the weekends so plan your days off relaxing at your hotel or doing day tours during that time. Universals Cabana Bay Beach Resort I really enjoyed staying here. It is a brilliant resort for families with a 50’s/60’s retro style and lots of great family-friendly facilities for a fun-filled stay. There are 2 outdoor pools, a lazy river, sand beach, water slide and poolside games. Towels and life jackets are provided complimentary. Inflatable rings are for sale ranging from $8 upwards. Lifeguards are on duty during opening hours. For an evening treat, there are nightly movies by the pool - a great way to relax after a day at the parks. Or for something more energetic, the resort has its own ten lane bowling alley open from midday to 11pm (from $18.50 pp). There is also a games arcade, a gym & a shop with plenty of essentials plus Universal merchandise. There are a number of food stations at the Bayliner Diner food court. We found this great for breakfast before going to the parks. You can buy a refillable souvenir cup, offering unlimited drinks from self-service machines at the hotel (water is free) - $12.50 for 1 day, $18 for 3 days, $22 for 7 days & $25 for ‘length of stay’. The hotel features its own Starbucks onsite plus a ‘Shakes malt shoppe’. Food and drink are also available at the bowling alley including cocktails, wine and beer. There are poolside restaurants offering drinks and snacks during the day. And you can order pizza to your room! One of the resort's standout features is its direct walking path to Universal's Volcano Bay water park. This was so handy & is a fantastic plus for families in my opinion. Guests also benefit from early park admission plus complimentary shuttle services to Universal’s theme parks nearby. The buses operate regularly, but my favourite way to get to the Universal theme parks was to walk across the road to Loews Sapphire Falls hotel & take the water shuttle. This was much more relaxing & as bags were screened before boarding the boat, it was very quick to enter the parks on arrival. Universal Orlando Resort needs no introduction. It is one of the top holiday resorts in the U.S.A. with exciting theme parks and hotels, perfect for families. I visited Universal Studios Florida, Universals Islands of Adventure and Universals Volcano Bay waterpark, along with a number of Universal Orlando hotels. However, a 4th Universal theme park, EPIC Universe, will open 22nd May 2025, featuring 5 new worlds and 3 new hotels - Universal Helios Grand hotel, Universal Stella Nova Resort & Universal Terra Luna Resort. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to make the most of your visit, from rides and attractions to dining and transportation options. Universal Studios Florida Universal Studios Florida immerses guests in the world of movies and television with various rides reflecting this. I loved walking around an area modelled on New York and another modelled on San Francisco. There were street bands, dances and a great atmosphere. Highlights for Young Children: • Despicable Me Minion Mayhem: Join Gru, his daughters & the mischievous Minions on a hilarious 3D ride. • DreamWorks Land: With rides and shows based on DreamWorks movies like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda & Madagascar. • E.T. Adventure: Takes you on a bike ride with E.T. to his home planet. Highlights for Adults: • Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit: A high-speed coaster that lets you choose your own soundtrack as you twist and turn at speed. • Fast & Furious Supercharged: A 3D simulator ride. If you like the Fast and Furious movies, it is a great ride to do. • Transformers: The Ride 3D: A 3D experience that puts you in the middle of a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley A must-see for Harry Potter fans. Explore Diagon Alley, go inside Gringotts bank with goblins working at the desks and see the fire-breathing dragon on top of the building. Go on the ‘Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts’ high speed 4-D indoor ride. Take the Hogwarts Express train from Universal Studios Florida to Universal Islands of Adventure (which connects Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley). NOTE: This is not included on 1 day tickets. We took the train in both directions to experience it, but one-way is enough. There isn’t anything different in the opposite direction. Universal’s Islands of Adventure Islands of Adventure is all about the adventure and thrills. This park is themed around superheroes and magical creatures. If you’re looking for the best roller coasters, this is where to go. Highlights for Young Children: • Seuss Landing: An area inspired by Dr. Seuss’s books, featuring gentle rides like the Cat in the Hat and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. • Pteranodon Flyers: A gliding ride that offers aerial views of the Jurassic Park area, perfect for kids and parents to enjoy together. (Adults are not allowed to ride this alone) Highlights for Adults: • The Incredible Hulk Coaster: A high-speed roller coaster that propels you from 0 to 40 mph in just two seconds. Loved this! I availed of the single rider line, which cut the wait time from 55 minutes to just 10 minutes. • Jurassic World VelociCoaster: Universal's most intense coaster, featuring breath-taking drops & high-speed launches. THE BEST ROLLERCOASTER IN THE PARKS! Hands down, my favourite. Just to warn you, it is so popular, that the wait times can be lengthy. It was 75 minutes when I was there and the single rider line was closed, so try to do this first to avoid the queues. If you have an express pass, all the better (additional cost, or free if staying at certain Universal Orlando hotels). • Hagrids Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure: A very fast motorbike ride through the forbidden forest and ruins, where you can sit on the motorbike (I would definitely recommend this) or in the sidecar. We did it twice to experience both options. A great roller coaster with lots of surprises! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade Hogsmeade Village, at the foot of Hogwarts Castle, offers another slice of the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Enjoy a ride on the Hogwarts Express, experience the Flight of the Hippogriff and sip on Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks. There are shows in this area and plenty of shops and ‘taverns’. Universal’s Volcano Bay water theme park With a 200 foot smouldering volcano at its centre, Universal’s Volcano Bay is a stunning tropical-themed water park inspired by the Pacific isles, that offers relaxation and adventure in equal measure. With 21 different attractions, there is something for everyone. You get a waterproof tapu-tapu wrist band on arrival and use this for virtual queueing for rides (no standing in line), to open lockers, to pay for food, drink and merchandise plus surprise people with interactive games around the park. Tip: Head straight to the Krakatau Aqua Coaster and tap on. If there is a wait, look for totems on other rides that say “Ride Now.” That means you can hop on without waiting or interrupting your Krakatau reservation. There are plenty of dining options in the park. Highlights for young children: • Waturi Beach: A wave pool with stunning views of Krakatau, perfect for relaxation. • Tot Tiki Reef and Runamukka Reef: These play areas offer gentle slides and water features designed for young children. • Kopiko Wai Winding River: Take a slow ride on this lazy river through tropical landscapes. Life jackets are required (provided). Highlights for Adults: • Krakatau Aqua Coaster: A must-do! A 4 person canoe slide upwards through the mist, through the volcano, plunging through a waterfall. • Honu of the Honu ika Moana: Sit on a 5 person raft, speeding through an open flume, along 2 massive walls. Absolutely loved this. You get up to a good height. • Ko’okiri Body Plunge: Featuring a drop door, a 70 degree angle descent & 125 ft slide, this is one for the thrill seekers! It typically has a long wait time, so use your tapu tapu to join the virtual queue while you relax on the beach or have a drink. You climb the steps inside the volcano higher and higher, then enter the capsule and at any moment the floor will give way plunging you to the bottom in just 4 seconds. I did it! It was brilliant. Would definitely do it again.

Iceland – The land of fire & ice Iceland has become so popular in recent years. It is stunningly beautiful with volcanoes, geysers, glaciers etc. & is so accessible to us with regular direct flights from Dublin. Many people visit in winter, to see the Northern Lights. I decided to visit in May for a week, when the weather is milder, there is more daylight & it is easier to travel as a family. Our flight with Icelandair took just 2 hours 45 mins. Our airfare included a generous 20kg bag per person. There were individual screens to squeeze in a movie or learn more about Iceland. A complimentary kid’s pack included games, a small stuffed animal, a drink & snack. A big thumbs up! The airport is approximately 45 mins from the city. You can travel by bus or pick up your hire car at the airport. We hired a car for the duration of our holiday. Reykjavik: Reykjavik is a compact city & easy to explore on foot. Our first stop was the famous Baejarins Beztu Pylsur hot dog stand. Next, we visited rainbow street, the quaint shops & Hallgrimskirkja church, which has food trucks & a playground next to it. We found a lovely restaurant & bar called Rok. The cocktails were fab! Laugardalslaug swimming pool has kids’ pools & slides, mini golf & a playground. I had this planned on our itinerary, however we had to give it a miss as one of the children had a high temperature, but there are plenty of opportunities for swimming in Iceland. After a delicious breakfast at the old harbour, we took a 3-hour morning whale watching boat trip. Summer is the best time to see whales in Iceland. The water was very calm, the sun was shining & we were lucky to see lots of minke whales. We all really enjoyed this. Even though we went in May, it was still chilly. We wore our winter coats, hats & gloves. There are warm overalls onboard if needed. Afterwards we visited the nearby Whales of Iceland museum with its life-sized models & interactive exhibits. I would highly recommend this for families with children. Next, we visited flyover Iceland (simulated flight ride) & treated ourselves to Omnom ice-cream & chocolate. We visited the Perlan museum, which is approximately 10 minutes by car from downtown Reykjavik. It has a real ice cave inside which you can walk through, as well as a Northern Lights show & a volcano show. It has a revolving restaurant & bar with views of the city & surrounding area. A great experience for all ages. The Golden Circle route: The Golden Circle Route is one of the most famous day tours from Reykjavik, however it is very easy to drive this route at your own pace during the summer months. Thingvellir National Park was our first stop of the day, an easy 45-minute drive from Reykjavik. Here you can walk between the European & North American continental plates. We continued to Efstidalur farm for ice-cream, followed by Gullfoss waterfall & the Geyser geothermal area, to see the Strokkur hot spring erupt. (The word Geyser comes from Iceland.) We had lunch at Fridheimar geothermal greenhouse & our next stop was the Secret Lagoon, an outdoor pool naturally heated to a lovely 38-40 degrees Celsius all year round. A further 1-hour drive took us to the amazing Seljalandsfoss waterfall. The South Coast: Instead of returning to Reykjavik, we continued on & spent the night at Hotel Skogafoss located right next to the Skogafoss waterfall. We were able to visit the waterfall the following morning & climb the 500 or so steps before any of the tour buses arrived. Afterwards, we drove to Skaftafell National Park, where we had lunch & walked along a path to see the glacier. We then stayed at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon, my favourite hotel of our trip to Iceland! The staff are so friendly, the food is excellent & there is a spa area with sauna plus outdoor hot tubs with endless views of the land & sea. Our room was very spacious & comfortable. We all had the best sleep. The next morning we drove just 30 mins to the absolute highlight of our trip, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon! We booked a family friendly amphibian boat tour, where we sailed amongst the icebergs! A definite pinch-me moment. My daughter got to hold a large chunk of ice from the lagoon. (There are also small group zodiac boat trips, but the minimum age is 10 years). Diamond Beach is beside the glacier lagoon, so called because of the icebergs on the black sand beach. Seals swam in the water right beside us! What an experience!! We drove back along the coast & spent 2 nights in the lovely town of Vik, known for its volcanic black sand beaches, cliffs & adventure activities. Vik church is a prominent landmark overlooking the town. We took it easy here, going to the playground, horse-riding on the beach & we went to the lava show. Unfortunately, we did not see any puffins on our cliff walk. They do usually arrive by May time. (There are optional tours to the Katla ice cave & nearby glaciers by super jeep from Vik.) The Blue Lagoon: On our way back along the coast to Keflavik, we stopped at Solheimajokull glacier & kerid crater. We did a lava tunnel tour & our last stop was the world-famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa. The Blue Lagoon is located approximately 45 mins from Reykjavik city & 20 mins from Keflavik international airport. As we approached, the road & landscape were not what we were expecting! Due to a very recent volcanic eruption in this area, we were driving on a new 'road', over a lava field! The eruption officially stopped 2 days previous & we were advised that another eruption could occur at any time! It was raining that day & visibility in the Blue Lagoon wasn't great, but the warmth of the geothermal water was lovely. There are a couple of different packages available. We chose the basic ‘comfort’ entrance ticket, which included a drink of choice plus a face mask. The bar is located in the water. I had a sparkling wine; my husband had a beer & the kids were delighted with their blue slushies. We applied our silica mud masks & waited a few minutes to reveal our beautifully cleansed skin. We enjoyed dinner afterwards in the Lava restaurant, which was superb. A lovely end to our time in Iceland. Overall, Iceland did not disappoint. It was a fantastic holiday where we experienced great food, magical scenery, plenty of adventure, fun & quality time together. I would highly recommend that you add Iceland to your bucket list, if it is not already on it!

You can even hop on a boat over to Ile aux Cerfs Golf Course to play on an offshore island – it is often voted one of the top 100 golf courses in the world. In the capital, Port Louis, you will find French colonial architecture, the 19th century Champ de Mars horse-racing track, the blue penny museum, a huge central market, Eureka plantation house and 18th century botanical gardens. The village of Grand Baie offers many restaurants, lively nightlife, shopping, and a colourful Hindu temple. We took a catamaran trip from the North coast and enjoyed swimming offshore. Whilst scuba-diving from the south coast, I experienced my first shark encounter! Time stood still as I tried to figure out how far away it was and how large it was. A day I will never forget. The food in Mauritius is influenced by a diverse mix of Indian, Chinese, African and European cultures, creating a melting-pot of flavours. Try dholl-puri (an Indian style flat-bread), Gateaux piment (chilli fritters) or boulettes (dumplings). Upon arrival at Beachcomber Hotels, you'll be greeted with warm smiles and breath-taking views. Embark on a captivating journey through the vibrant streets of Hanoi, the serene waters of Halong Bay, the ancient towns of Hue and Hoi An, the bustling city of Saigon, and cross the border into Cambodia to explore the historic wonders of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and the Bayon. Hanoi: Embracing the Chaos We began our journey in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, where ancient traditions blend harmoniously with modern life. Navigate the chaotic streets filled with motorbikes, bicycles, and street vendors—crossing the road requires a brave heart and a leap of faith, but once mastered, it becomes a thrilling experience in itself! You will witness all sorts on motorbikes including whole families! We explored the historic Old Quarter with its narrow streets and centuries-old architecture, stopping to sample street food like pho (noodle soup), bun cha (BBQ pork with rice noodles) and banh mi (Vietnamese baguette). The more adventurous can try Bun oc (snail noodle soup). The food is very fresh and so good. There are many cafes and restaurants in Hanoi, but the best experience is eating street-side, sitting on tiny plastic stools. In 2015, US President Barack Obama and late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain dined together at Huong Liên restaurant. Since then, it has been jam packed. Anthony Bourdain loved Vietnamese food and visited many times. Hanoi is also renowned for its coffee, with traditional Ca Phe Den (Black coffee) and Ca Phe Nau (sweetened condensed milk coffee) being two of the most popular coffees in Vietnam. Egg coffee is also very popular. Immerse yourself in Hanoi's rich history by visiting Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, the Temple of Literature, Tran Quoc pagoda and the charming Hoan Kiem Lake. Take in a water puppet show at the Thang Long theatre. (Tip: Skip the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology unless you’re really bored!) Sailing Through Halong Bay: A Natural Wonder An absolute must when visiting Vietnam is to include a one or two night cruise through the breathtaking landscapes of Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its emerald waters and towering limestone karsts. The transfer from Hanoi City takes approx. 3 hours. Sail past picturesque islands and hidden caves, stopping to kayak in the bay's tranquil waters. Buy fresh fruit and snacks from boat vendors that row over and pull up alongside the larger boats. Witness stunning sunsets and starlit skies from the deck of your boat—a truly magical experience. Hue and Hoi An: Echoes of the Past We flew from Hanoi to Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam, and explored its ancient citadel and imperial mausoleums, plus Thien Mu pagoda. The perfume river flows through Hue. In the autumn, flowers from orchids upriver from Hue fall into the water, giving the river a perfume-like aroma. We travelled by car to Hoi An, a UNESCO-listed town known for its well-preserved architecture and beautiful lantern-lit streets. ‘Hoi-An ancient town’ is an exceptionally well preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. We took a motorbike tour past the countryside and rice paddies to the Japanese Covered Bridge. We enjoyed a few nights rest and relaxation at the beach. The streets of Hoi-An are lined with tailors and shoemakers. We got clothes tailor made within a couple of days at a bargain price. Nha Trang: Beach stay We flew from the Danang airport (approx. 40 mins from Hoi-An) to the bustling seaside city of Nha Trang, known for its pristine beaches and vibrant coral reefs. Whilst the beach is beautiful, I found Nha Trang to be too busy, coming from the quieter beaches of Hoi-An. However, there are many luxurious hotels to choose from in this area, with some properties situated on nearby islands for a more tranquil experience. Saigon and the Cu Chi Tunnels: A Glimpse into History We took another short flight within Vietnam, this time from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest city. In contrast to Hanoi, it is a modern, vibrant city with more cars, less motorbikes (still a lot!) and lots of traffic lights. We enjoyed the bustling streets and markets of Ho Chi Minh City and took a fun motorbike tour passing Notre Dame Cathedral, reunification palace, the central post office, and the Saigon Opera House. We visited the Cu Chi Tunnels on a day trip, a vast underground network used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War (known locally as the American war). And also visited the war remnants museum back in Ho Chi Minh City. This museum displays photographs and artefacts including military equipment and tells many peoples stories of the horrors of the war in Vietnam. Very few people left without shedding a tear. Crossing into Cambodia: Temples of Ancient Splendour We flew from Ho Chi Minh City across the border into Cambodia. We spent 3 nights in Siem Reap, the gateway to the magnificent Angkor Archaeological Park. We explored the area with a local tour guide by tuktuk. For perspective, this archaeological park is the size of Vienna! It is huge. Angkor Wat itself is the world's largest religious monument, covering an area four times the size of the Vatican. It was built by Khmer king Suryavarman II in the first half of the 12th century. The site boasts an enormous system of artificial canals, dikes, and reservoirs. It is amazing! A minimum of 3 nights is required to experience this vast complex at a leisurely pace, visiting the temples in the morning, taking time out to relax at your hotel pool during the midday heat and then visiting the temples again later in the day when it is cooler and less busy. It is possible to rush and try to see everything in less time, but I wouldn’t recommend it! Angkor Thom can be entered via the South Gate which is flanked by 54 devils and gods locked in an eternal tug of war with a huge snake. Inside the high walled citadel, all roads lead to the Bayon, with giant smiling faces watching your every move. The 350-metre Terrace of Elephants makes Angkor Thom a definite ‘must see’. Aside from the undeniable ingenuity of Khmer architects, another side to Angkor is the quicksilver tree roots that slither and drip over crumbling temple walls such as Ta Prohm. Unlike other temples, Ta Prohm has been preserved pretty much as it was found and is a very popular site, particularly for fans of the 2001 Tomb Raider film. If you are seeking a holiday filled with ancient wonders, natural beauty, culture, wildlife and adventure, Sri Lanka is a delight for the senses. Why book a private tour? Bear in mind that distances can be great between many of the major sights in Sri Lanka. There are various holiday options, depending on what you would like to see. There are beach resorts where you can relax for a week or so and book optional day tours in the vicinity. There are also multi-day group tours where you can travel with others and see more of the country, according to a set itinerary. The best option is to book a private tour with your own driver guiding you for the duration of your trip. This may seem over the top, however let me assure you that it is the norm in Sri Lanka. The massive benefit is that your itinerary is tailored to you, ensuring that you get the most from your visit. If you have a particular interest, the itinerary is built around this. Your preferred standard of accommodation is taken into consideration and any other requirements that you may have. For example, if an absolute must for your trip to Sri Lanka is to see wildlife, a 4WD safari to see elephants will be included or a trip to Yala National Park where you may also spot leopard, crocodiles, deer, macaques, and various birdlife. You could also consider including an epic train journey past rolling hills, paddy fields, lush tropical forest and palm trees, or a hike or even white water rafting. Our itinerary: We flew with Sri Lankan airlines & it was great to have an immediate introduction to the culture of Sri Lanka – we were welcomed onboard with the warmest of smiles, the cabin crew wore beautiful colourful traditional Saree & the food was delicious. We were met at the airport by our personal driver/guide. Our first stop was Jetwing Vil Uyana in Sigiriya, in Sri Lankas cultural triangle. This transfer took approx. 3 hours. With just 36 spacious dwellings, this property fuses modern comforts with sustainable design using woven reeds & rattan, around five thriving eco-systems of garden, marsh, paddy, water, and forest. It is a unique sanctuary for wildlife in the shadow of Sigiriya rock. We stayed in a paddy dwelling with a plunge pool & private deck overlooking the lush paddy fields. Over the next few days, we visited Sigiriya, Dambulla and Minneriya National Park. Sigiriya, an ancient rock fortress rising dramatically from the surrounding jungle. Known as the "Lion Rock," Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka's most iconic landmarks. Our guide brought us up 1,200 steps to the summit. We passed well-preserved frescoes adorning the rock face, depicting maidens in vibrant colours. Standing atop the ancient ruins of King Kasyapa's palace, we were treated to breathtaking views. Worth the climb! Back on ground, we met Buddhist monks and explored the lush gardens and water features that surround the base of Sigiriya. A 30 minute drive from Sigiriya is Dambulla cave temple, which was built approx. 80 BC! It is the largest, best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka with Buddhist statues and paintings. Remember to cover your shoulders when visiting temples. Tip for the ladies: Bring a pashmina in your bag, as you can easily use this to cover up when required. Minneriya National Park is a wildlife sanctuary, famous for its large population of Asian elephants. A half-day safari in this park offers visitors the opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, as well as a variety of other wildlife such as Leopard, deer, buffalo, monkeys, and various species of birds. Experienced guides take visitors on a 4WD safari through the park's rugged terrain. What a sight it was to see herds of elephants basking by the lake. The drive from Jetwing Vil Uyana to Kandy takes 2 hours, however we stopped off enroute to visit a spice garden and learn about Ayurvedic practices. Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine which uses a natural and holistic approach to keeping the mind, body, and spirit healthy. Treatments including yoga, massage, acupuncture, and natural medicines. Kandy is a lovely city in the central highlands of Sri Lanka with a lake at its centre. We had lunch at a local restaurant, which included so many small dishes that our table was full. We enjoyed dhal, rice, different vegetable dishes, curries, and flatbreads. It was delicious! We were in Kandy during the Perahera festival. We had seats with a view of the parade and seen musicians, fire-breathers, dancers, jugglers, and decorated elephants. After Kandy, the next stop on our itinerary was Nuwara Eliya, a 2 hour drive away. The countryside is very green and lush with tea estates and waterfalls. We visited a working tea plantation where we learned about tea cultivation and processing and tasted different flavours of Ceylon tea. We concluded our trip to Sri Lanka with pure rest and relaxation at The Fortress Resort and Spa in Galle. With luxurious accommodations, a beautiful pool and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and stilt fishermen, I am ashamed to say that we didn’t leave this hotel once during our stay! We felt so well taken care of. We were blown away by the level of service - the staff were so friendly and so professional. They anticipated our every need. The standard of food and beverage was excellent. After checking-in we went straight to the bar for a drink, where we were greeted by name! From that moment on, they knew our preferred drinks and brought them to us always at the perfect time. We didn’t need to look for anyone to ask for anything! The spa here is fabulous and an absolute must. There are river safaris, a turtle hatchery, scuba diving excursions and boat trips plus cookery classes in the area, as well as a historic fort, local restaurants, and bustling markets. Yala National Park is just 2 hours away. (We'll have to come back!) In conclusion: We spent 4 nights in the Maldives (separate blog) and from there, took a short 1 hour 40 minute flight to Colombo. This is a very popular holiday / honeymoon option. Our trip was perfect. It was great to start and finish with time at the beach to relax, but If I were to do it all again, I would consider starting with Sri Lanka and ending in the Maldives. The Maldives blew our minds, and we spent our time in Sri Lanka talking about how beautiful it was. Call me to discuss your own bespoke tour of this amazing island.

Having already been to Mexico a number of times on previously holidays, I already knew the beaches were stunning, there is a vibrant culture with so much to see and do, the hotels are a really good standard with excellent service and high quality food and beverages. This is what convinced me that it would be an ideal holiday destination for our family. As most of the resorts are all-inclusive, a holiday to Mexico can be as relaxing or as busy as you’d like it to be. I have written a blog about travelling long-haul with children, which you can also read. I planned ahead and involved the children, to prepare them for the trip and to build excitement. We read about all of the different things to see and do. We decided to go snorkelling with turtles at Akumal, so I bought children’s snorkel masks & we practiced using them in the bath before we went. It was great fun. On arrival to Cancun airport, we were met and taken by private transfer to our resort. I chose a private transfer to make the journey as hassle free and quick as possible (no waiting around in lines or being held up by others). I would recommend that you do the same when travelling with children. The difference in cost is minimal. Dreams Natura Resort and Spa is a 5 star all-inclusive beach resort. It is situated in a quiet area (maybe too remote for couples looking for nightlife or families wanting to be in the centre of all the action). The airport transfer took just 20 minutes. We booked a Preferred Club junior suite with sea view. It was very spacious and beautifully decorated, with all the facilities you would expect from a luxury hotel with room safe, mini bar etc. We even had a jacuzzi on our terrace. A luxury not always available at other hotels is complimentary 24 hour room service. Very handy if children are having a nap and you would like a drink or a bite to eat. The facilities at Dreams Natura (and all Dreams resorts) are fantastic, including kids club, teens club, a beautiful spa, excellent gym, four swimming pools including a kid’s pool and an adults-only pool, a lazy river, 4 water slides, roll-glider (seated zipline), climbing wall plus water sports and daily entertainment. Yoga is held at the beach pavilion (weddings are also held here). There is a large number of restaurants to choose from and they are all excellent! Options include Mexican, Italian, French, Asian, seafood, a steakhouse, a buffet (handy for children) as well as grab n go from the Barefoot Grill (chips, chicken wings and burgers), a café with great coffee, drinks, and treats, plus an ice-cream parlour which the kids absolutely loved. They wanted to visit it every day! Being a luxury resort, there are no wrist bands, and you are not required to prebook restaurants in advance (except for the Teppanyaki show) - a huge gripe of mine with some all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean! You can dine where you want when you want. If a restaurant is busy, you don’t have to wait in line. You are given a buzzer and can go to the bar for a drink or for a walk on the beach until your table is ready (we only experienced this wait once at this hotel). The hotel app is brilliant, not only to see what restaurants are open and to view menus, but to see what is happening each day in the resort. There are tablets provided for use in the bedrooms and you can download the app to your mobile phones also. The hotel staff are excellent & they work hard every day preparing for events and providing entertainment. The children loved the staff in the kid’s club. The evening entertainment is great. There is live music at the lounge bar, shows in the theatre (we loved the silent disco, and the acrobatics show) and some more low key bars with pool tables etc. There are a number of bars including a swim up bar and a beach bar with swings. Note: There was a lot of sargassum (seaweed) on the beach, which is an annual occurrence during the summer months. It was particularly bad when we visited; however, the hotel was very active every day in cleaning it up. If you visit Mexico at that time of year, you will more than likely see this clean up happening at all of the beaches along the coast. The beaches are stunning and are hugely important for tourism, so they are looked after very well. The Preferred Club rooms include a 25 min chair massage along with other benefits. I availed of this & it was a lovely treat. They only do this short massage during certain times each day & it fills up in advance. You can book longer massages or other spa treatments at an additional charge. We spent our days relaxing and enjoying everything the hotel had to offer. The time flew by. With young children, we felt that we had everything we needed within the hotel and did not need to leave at any stage. It is a really well appointed resort. I prebooked the Jolly Roger pirate ship excursion. This included transfers from our hotel to Cancun where the boat set sail from. The show includes music and a meal. We sailed around the area while the sun set. We all really enjoyed this. A big thumbs up. As many of the scheduled day tours depart early in the morning and spend a full day visiting a number of different areas/attractions, they didn’t suit us as a family with young children. Instead, I booked car hire for a day giving us more flexibility. It was delivered to our hotel with car seats for the children. I prebooked a snorkel trip from the dive centre at Akumal ($35 adults / $25 kids). The beach is stunning and the turtles feed here daily very close to the shore. The children did great with their snorkels (which I brought from home), and we all really enjoyed this experience. We had lunch at a beach restaurant and relaxed. On our way back, we stopped off at a cenote and had a swim in the cool water with the jungle surrounding us. Truly magical. Note: Cenotes close by sunset, so plan accordingly. What a day! And what a holiday. Mexico, we will be back!!

Getting to travel together as a family is not only a valuable opportunity to spend quality time together and to create joyful memories, travelling with children can also significantly boost their development. Not all classrooms have four walls! If you love to travel and explore the world, share this joy and passion with your children. You will plant the seed of wonder. What a lovely gift that is to give to them. When our children were babies, we travelled to Greece, Spain, and Portugal. We had fabulous holidays, which suited our needs perfectly at that time (short flights, short airport transfers, hotels with facilities for babies, heated swimming pools, onsite restaurants etc.). However, now that they are a little older, I thought why not travel a little further (or a lot further). If not now, when? Why wait?! If you are hesitant to bring your children on a long-haul flight, please don’t put it off. Let me share my personal experiences with you and explain why I believe it is actually a fantastic idea! My children were 5 and 6 years old when we flew long-haul (we actually flew on Indies 5th birthday). We started with a self-drive holiday to the Canadian Rockies and then flew down to Mexico where we stayed in a family-friendly all-inclusive beach resort. A perfect combination! I have written separate blogs about these holidays, which you can also read. So how did I know that my children were ready to embark on a long-haul flight? I didn't, but I was willing to bite the bullet and put it to the test. (My husband not so much, but we did it and we are all so glad). I planned ahead and involved the children, to prepare them for the trip and to build excitement. Long-haul flights have seat-back entertainment screens to watch movies and keep everyone occupied, but as always, when travelling with children, you need a ‘kit.’ We made a list together of what they would bring onboard in a small backpack/schoolbag – their tablets and headphones, a small light snuggly blanket, their favourite stuffed toys, new colouring books and some new story books and of course plenty of snacks plus lollies for their ears to minimise discomfort during take-off and landing. This gave them a sense of responsibility and also a sense of familiarity and comfort for the flight. We planned to play our children’s card games together, but also to get some rest. I brought a book for myself to read, being very positive! Ha ha. We set a countdown for the holiday – this can be a regular calendar that they can mark off each day, or an app on your phone or a countdown on Alexa – they can ask daily how many more sleeps until the holiday! By preparing your child for the big day with enthusiasm and positivity, you're setting the stage for a memorable and stress-free experience. The journey becomes a part of the adventure, and the excitement of flying becomes a cherished memory for them to look back on. Always prebook your seats together on the flights. Some airlines allow you to do this free of charge after your flight tickets have been issued. Other airlines charge an additional fee to prebook seating. I understand that this is so important and advise my clients of their options. For long-haul journeys, most airlines allow you to request a child meal. If you are travelling with infants, you should request a bassinet for your child. By requesting this in advance, you will have the best chance of securing it. A bassinet is an absolute game changer. These baby beds attach to the aircrafts bulkhead and provide a comfortable and safe spot for your child to rest and sleep. Always bring spare clothes, even with older children. They may spill their drink on themselves, and nobody wants to be uncomfortable, sitting in wet clothes for long periods. They certainly wouldn’t be happy and will let everyone know! Board the flight early, so that you can settle in. And take walk breaks during the flight to get a little exercise and avoid boredom. Another tip, as you will more than likely be transiting enroute to your final destination, is to look up the facilities at the airport where you connect. There may be a soft play area or other facilities for families. If it is a long layover, look at what restaurants are available and their menus, so that you know what will suit your family best. Also, whatever happens, don’t stress as your children will feed off this. If you are happy, relaxed, and excited, your children will sense and mirror this. Download the airlines app. Lots of airlines have excellent apps now, which are so convenient. It will track your bags, tell you your gates and let you know if your flight is delayed. When we woke early the morning of our departure, I had a notification from the airline that our flight from Dublin would be delayed and that we would miss our onward connection. They had automatically rebooked us on a later connecting flight, but this meant a much longer layover than originally planned. This was out of our control, so we took it in our stride and the children knew no different. I contacted our transfer company to inform them of the situation (book a private airport transfer – it is not much more expensive and is 100% worth it). During our layover, we had a leisurely stroll around the shops and celebrated my daughter’s birthday with pizza and dessert. We bagged a table at the window with a view of the aircraft coming and going. When travelling with children, I always take a thermometer and children’s Nurofen, as well as plasters and antiseptic cream, just in case! I put this in my checked-in luggage. If you need to take medication onboard for yourself or your children, remember to take a copy of your prescription. Our journey went very well. And whilst we won't take a long-haul holiday every year and children’s needs and interests change as they grow, I am confident that everything is possible when you put your mind to it and plan ahead as best you can. We were whisked away to our island resort by speedboat. On the way we passed tiny islands and flying fish. On arrival to Anantara Veli Maldives Resort, we were greeted by drums and at the sand-floor reception we received a welcome shoulder massage! The resorts spacious over-water villas (starting at 66 sqm) stand as icons of luxury and sophistication, offering uninterrupted views and direct access to the lagoon below. From our private terrace, it was just a few steps into the water, where we could snorkel to our hearts content. Close your eyes. Breath in. Feel the gentle breeze and the warmth of sunshine. Naladhu private island Whilst staying at Anantara Veli Maldives Resort, I had the opportunity to visit one of the most acclaimed five star beach resorts in the Maldives. Farewell to Paradise As our time in the Maldives was drawing to a close, we received a personalised note under our door. The story nearly brought a tear to my eye. I have kept it to this day. I booked just 4 nights in the Maldives (enroute to Sri Lanka), as I was afraid that I would get bored very quickly, HOWEVER in hindsight, I would advise anyone to stay longer if possible. It is difficult to explain. I completely switched off and relaxed from the moment that we arrived but was 100% content to do so. I was so sad when it was time to leave. As we bid farewell to Anantara Veli Maldives Resort, we knew that its doors will always be open, ready to welcome us back to paradise whenever we choose to return. In Conclusion The property in the Maldives that you choose is very important, as some are small boutique resorts with possibly 1 restaurant, 1 bar, a spa and a water sports centre. This may be exactly what you are looking for to unwind from your normal busy schedule. The larger resorts would generally be busier but have more facilities. You may prefer a resort with a larger choice of a la carte restaurants, like we chose. A resort with its own house reef may be essential to you. Wherever you stay in the Maldives, it tends to be a no news, no shoes policy! Doesn’t that sound amazing?! The Bahamas is renowned for its white powdery beaches and turquoise seas. It is the perfect destination for a honeymoon or romantic getaway; however, it is also a great choice for families. With shallow crystal clear waters for little ones to splash about in and a range of family friendly resorts, there really is something for everyone in these islands. It is important to plan which of the many islands are right for you! With over 700 islands and cays, the Bahamas offers endless opportunities for island hopping. Each island has its own unique charm, from the bustling nightlife of Nassau to the serene beauty of the Out Islands. Explore different landscapes, cultures, and experiences without ever leaving this beautiful archipelago. Nassau We began our Bahamian adventure in Nassau, the capital, known for its colourful colonial architecture and lively atmosphere. We explored the historic streets of downtown Nassau, with pastel-coloured buildings, little shops, and the pink buildings of Parliament Square. This is a very compact walkable area. You can visit the Queen's Staircase, carved out of limestone by slaves in the late 18th century, and climb to the top for panoramic views of the city. I would also recommending diving into Bahamian history at the Pirates of Nassau Museum, where interactive exhibits bring the swashbuckling tales of pirates to life. We enjoyed a wide range of food, from an informal evening dining on conch salad & fritters under the bridge, to huge portions of food and cocktails at Senor Frogs and a more refined dinner experience at Graycliff, a 5 star fine dining restaurant and boutique hotel. We experienced local nightlife & danced the night away. We stayed at the 4 star all-inclusive Melia Nassau Beach on stunning Cable Beach. This property is within easy reach of nearby shops, restaurants and buzzing nightlife, making it the perfect choice for visitors looking for fun and relaxation in equal measure. It is an ideal resort for families, with plenty of activities to suit all ages, a number of pools, restaurants plus daily entertainment. We enjoyed afternoon tea at The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort, where Daniel Craig filmed Casino Royale. This luxury resort features spacious rooms and expansive beachfront private villas plus an array of facilities including 3 restaurants (one with a Michelin-star chef), a spa and three swimming pools with the jewel in the crown being the adults-only Versailles pool situated within a multi-tiered landscaped garden. The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort, sits on cabbage beach, a white sandy beach which stretches for 8 km/5 miles. Guests can be brought to the Atlantis Resort by golf buggy through a private entrance, with complimentary access. Atlantis Paradise Island offers an incredible range of accommodations in five distinct hotels, plus over 40 restaurants featuring 3 Michelin starred chefs, plenty of bars, as well as a casino, an award-winning spa, shopping arcade and marina. And of course, Aquaventure waterpark, marine habitat, dolphin cay plus a number of pools and beaches. There is an extensive activities programme for all ages and even a nightclub for teens (no adults allowed!) with a gaming lounge, pool tables, air hockey, a DJ and a bar serving non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. Tip: Guests of the Comfort Suites have full access to the Atlantis Resort! This property offers the greatest value in the Caribbean with affordable rates, newly renovated junior suites (sleeping 4), complimentary breakfast daily and Wi-Fi, plus an outdoor pool with swim up bar. We also visited Sandals Royal Bahamian, British Colonial Nassau, and Baha Mar. Diving The waters of the Bahamas are famous for their clarity and consistent conditions. It is the only destination in the world that can guarantee sharks, and because of this, has become known as the under-water film capital of the world. Some of the most intimate and up-close shark diving in the world can be found here. From tiger shark dives in Freeport, silky sharks in Nassau, or hammerheads in Bimini, come face to face with these impressive predators. We enjoyed 2 dives with Stuart Coves Dive Bahamas. Dozens of 5-6 foot Caribbean Reef sharks swim amongst everyone and come within touching distance of all of the divers (although no touching is allowed!) The Bahamas is also home to the world’s third largest barrier reef (the Andros Barrier Reef). Beautiful shallow reefs teeming with marine life, contrast with a wall that plummets to a depth of 6,000 feet, known as the Tongue of the Ocean. Grand Bahama After a short 35 minute flight, we reached Grand Bahama, an island renowned for its beaches, reef-lined bays, mangrove swamps, all-inclusive resorts, and golf courses. We visited the Port Lucaya Marketplace, which has lots of shops and restaurants to suit every taste plus a number of bars with late-night entertainment. It is the largest open-air shopping, dining, and entertainment complex in the Bahamas and is definitely worth a visit. We stayed at the Grand Lucayan all-inclusive resort, situated next door. A lovely property in a great location, with 4 restaurants and bars, a spa, gym, and entertainment programme, as well as unlimited golf. We visited the nearby Lucayan National Park, where we took a guided walk to spot birdlife, lizards & lots of beautiful washed up conch shells. We kayaked through the mangroves and enjoyed a home cooked meal of rice, peas, and meat. On the way back, we stopped off at Pelican Point Beach. I wish we had more time there. It is a stunning, unspoiled piece of paradise! 5 nights just whet my appetite for this amazing destination. With so much more to explore, it is on my bucket list to return to someday. Let me take you on a journey through the heart of Kenya’s untamed beauty Kenya is the original safari destination, home of the famous Masai Mara, and shares the Great Wildebeest Migration with its neighbour Tanzania - the largest animal migration in the world. Every year, more than 2 million animals (wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle) migrate in a clockwise direction across the ecosystems of the Serengeti (Tanzania) and the Masai Mara (Kenya). The allure of Kenya’s wildlife and the breath-taking landscapes makes any safari in Kenya an unforgettable experience. The Great Rift Valley and Lake Nakuru After spending 1 night in Nairobi, we had an early morning wake up call for our drive west through Kenya’s fertile highlands and across the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru (approx. 2 ½ hours), home to millions of flamingos that blanket its shores in a sea of pink, creating a spectacle like no other. Once in the park, we enjoyed a game drive enroute to our lodge keeping our eyes peeled for rhinos, giraffes, and buffaloes roaming the surrounding savannah. Following lunch and a siesta, we had an afternoon game drive returning to our lodge as the sun set. We stayed at Lake Nakuru Lodge, a beautiful eco-lodge situated within the Lake Nakuru National Park with unobstructed views of the lake and wildlife. Whilst on Safari, accommodation is on a Full Board basis. The Masai Mara: Africa's Premier Safari Destination No trip to Kenya would be complete without a visit to the Masai Mara, one of Africa's most iconic safari destinations. Home to the famous Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino—the Masai Mara offers unparalleled opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography. After our early morning breakfast, we left Lake Nakuru behind and began our ascent up over the top of the Mau escarpment and south to Narok, the gateway to the Masai Mara. This drive took approx. 4 hours. (It is possible to fly directly from Nairobi to the Mara) We arrived in time for lunch, followed by our afternoon game drive through the vast savannah, where lions prowl the plains, herds of elephants roam freely, and cheetahs sprint across the grasslands in pursuit of prey. We stayed at Sarova Mara Game Camp. The luxury safari camp offers a selection of safari tents with a permanent roof and floor, zip-up fronts, attached bathroom, running hot water supply and electricity. Wooden walkways link the tents and manicured lawns with the main dining / bar areas and are built over wide lily ponds. There are also 3x spacious 2 bedroom family tents. We enjoyed time at the swimming pool. The next day, after an early morning game drive and breakfast, we checked out and departed to Keekorok Lodge with a game drive enroute arriving at the lodge in time for lunch plus an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge as the sun set. Keekorok Lodge was the first lodge built in the Mara. It is situated in the direct path of the spectacular annual migration which occurs from July to October every year. At the height of the migration, Keekorok is surrounded by a swarming mass of animals and there is hardly need to go on a game drive! Keekorok Airstrip is only a 10-minute drive away. In front of the lodge there is a 300m elevated walkway that meanders through a small forest to a bar at one end. This overlooks a dam where resident hippo and other game are regularly seen. We enjoyed a drink watching the hippos run to the water and play. The sound was amazing. Whilst on the Masai Mara on our various game drives, we witnessed lions mating, giraffes fighting (swinging their heads & headbutting each other), cheetah, hyena, wild dog, antelope, buffalo, elephant, zebra, rhino, waterbuck, and lots of different types of birds. Mombasa Beach: Relaxation on the Indian Ocean After days of adventure in the bush, we returned to Nairobi for our onward flight to Mombasa. Passing through this coastal city, you can witness daily life. Fringed by white sand beaches, and shaded by coconut palms, the silver ribbon of the Swahili coastline offers the ultimate tropical paradise. The beaches here are stunning and it was lovely to feel the soft sand between our toes and cool off with a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean. We spent 1 night at the beautiful Serena Beach Hotel and Spa, situated on a private stretch of beach. Bright white against the blue sky, set in extensive tropical gardens, the architecture replicates the winding lanes and colourful marketplaces of a traditional 13th century Swahili town. At its heart lies the coral-built ‘Fortress of Tranquillity’ with the spa. Accommodation was on a Half Board basis. We stayed in a garden room with direct access to the lawn with palm trees, leading to the sea. There are a number of different room types including 2 bedroom family rooms. All are very spacious. I fell in love with this hotel. It is full of character and has excellent facilities. The food was fantastic, as it had been throughout our trip to Kenya. I could easily have spent a number of days here, but I had no time for the hammock - we had another hotel to experience the next day. We travelled to the South Coast to stay at the Baobab Beach Resort and Spa. This is a large all-inclusive resort comprising 3 luxury properties, located on Kenya’s famous Diani Beach. It has won numerous awards including Africa’s leading family resort and Kenya’s leading beach resort. The beach here is expansive! The rooms are huge and there are a number of restaurants and bars to choose from. Leisure facilities include 3 swimming pools, water sports, tennis courts plus an entertainment programme. There are shops and a spa (at an additional cost). I bought a packet of crackers, which were stolen by some cheeky monkeys right in front of my eyes! I have been lucky enough to visit Kenya on safari a number of times, both in the low season and the high season. I have also been on safari in Tanzania (which I combined with a beach stay in Zanzibar) and in South Africa (which I combined with Mauritius). Each experience was very different. In the heart of the Caribbean lies a destination of captivating charm and rich cultural heritage. Cuba is influenced by its melting pot of cultures, primarily those of Spain, Africa and the indigenous Taínos of Cuba. The island lies east of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and just 90 miles South of Florida, but since the Cuban Revolution of 1959 this distance has seemed far greater. Seeking a holiday infused with history, music and tropical beaches, Cuba beckoned. We flew from Dublin via Paris to Havana with Air France. As we set foot in Havana, we were instantly enveloped in the city's vibrant energy and old-world charm. From the iconic vintage cars that line the streets to the colourful colonial architecture that adorns every corner, Havana is a living testament to the island's storied past and enduring spirit. We stayed at the historic Hotel Nacional de Cuba, overlooking the Malecon (the sea wall and esplanade that stretches for 8km / 5 miles). We had a fabulous sea view from our room and loved the old world charm. This property opened in 1930 and is a national monument. It has witnessed many historical events and has had many important guests, including artists, actors, athletes and writers. Over the years, they have preserved as treasures a number of these rooms, for example 'Mafia' room 211, Nat King Cole room 218, 'Ava Gardner y Frank Sinatra' room 225, Jean Paul Sartre room 539 and Tennessee Williams room 570. We enjoyed a history tour of the hotel, guided by a lady who has worked there for over 30 years. She spent 2 months in the bunkers of the hotel as a child during the missile crisis. We were absolutely captivated. We wandered through the cobblestone streets of Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where every building intrigued us. No neon signs. No Starbucks or McDonalds. It was a breath of fresh air. These beautiful buildings were pharmacies, bakeries, museums, shops & bars. We explored the markets, where we bought paintings and leather belts and bags. After an afternoon of strolling, we found a little restaurant with air conditioning and enjoyed ice cream with waiter service and white linen tablecloths. We visited the rum museum and the museum of the revolution. There are plenty of other museums to visit and beautiful buildings to admire, like El Capitolio. We loved the parks where people played dominoes and chatted. No visit to Havana would be complete without indulging in the city's most famous export—cigars. Take a tour of a cigar factory, where skilled torcedores craft these prized treasures by hand. Immerse yourself in Cuban music and dance. In Cuba, music is more than just a sound—it's a way of life. From the pulsating rhythms of salsa and son to the soulful melodies of bolero and mambo, the island's musical heritage is as diverse as it is captivating. We had dinner and some mojitos and daiquiris at La Floridita. We ordered a baked Alaska for dessert, which was very impressive with the flames nearly reaching the ceiling. La Bodiguita del Medio is another famous bar to try. We spent our evenings listening to live bands and dancing in Havana's iconic nightclubs. Why not prebook a dance class or a cabaret show at the Tropicana! Enjoy a tribute concert to the Buena Vista Social Club at Legendarios del Guajirito. At 9pm each evening, cannons are fired at the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress. This ritual dates back to 1774, when the city had to defend itself from regular pirate attacks. A cannon was fired to inform Havana's residents of the nightly closure of the gates in the city wall. While pirate attacks are no longer a daily threat to the Cuban capital, the cannon blasting ceremony has remained a tradition, with guards dressing in historic uniforms as if it were the 18th century! After 3 days, it was time for some Rest and Relaxation. We were transferred to Varadero (approx 2 1/2 hours). Situated on the Hicacos Peninsula, it is renowned for its powdery white sands and turquoise water, making it the perfect destination for sun-seekers. Varadero offers plenty of water-sports from snorkelling, scuba diving and deep sea fishing to windsurfing, parasailing and banana boats! We had great fun. The resorts in Varadero are on an all-inclusive basis, so bear this in mind when budgeting for your holiday cost and your spending money. Cuba is great value. We spent 7 nights in Varadero. I found this too long for me personally, but I do get bored quite easily. As I do so often, I took time out from my holiday whilst in Havana and also in Varadero to visit many of the hotels in the area. I love to be able to experience places and properties first hand to give the best advice to my clients. We did not visit Trinidad or the Vinales Valley. Both are very popular. Traditionally we think of Lapland as being somewhere for young families to visit Santa in December. A bucket list trip. It is so much more! It is a fantastic destination for children of all ages, teens included, as well as adults looking for a cosy winter break. Did you know that February is peak season? As I did my research, I learned that February offers more daylight than December, more sunshine, more pleasant temperatures (cold but more bearable), more powdery snow (great for winter sports) & a better chance to see the Northern Lights! When Ryanair launched their direct flight from Dublin to Rovaniemi I jumped at the chance to visit & to tailor our holiday exactly as we wanted. The flight duration is just 3 hours 25 minutes. Accommodation Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland, located right on the Arctic circle & is the official hometown of Santa Claus. We stayed at Santa Claus Holiday Village, a short 5-minute transfer from Rovaniemi airport through snowy forest-scapes. We stayed in a classic cottage, which had 1 bedroom & a sofa bed in the living room, a kitchen, large clothes drying closet & a bathroom with sauna. It was very warm, comfortable & spacious. There is a good choice of dining options in Santa Claus Village & all of the winter wonderland activities are on your doorstep. We found it great to be able to walk back to our cottage at any time. With small children, anything can happen. They may get tired or a little too cold, they may fall & hurt themselves or feel unwell. Magical activities We pulled the children along on sleds. They climbed up mounds of snow & slid down them to their hearts content. They played in the playground & made a snow family. There were plenty of snowball fights. It was really lovely to play together in the snow & was so much fun. We prebooked a 5km husky ride (20 mins) & entrance tickets to Snowman World (with ice skating, slides, snow tubing & a snow bar). The mini snowmobiles can be done at any time, on a very safe small track. (Other snowmobile tours can also be booked – don’t forget to bring your driver’s licence if you wish to drive!) That evening we did the Elfs Hat academy. An elf took us along a secret path to their cabin where we learned to speak elf words & dance moves, we decorated cookies & graduated with a special diploma & our very own elf hat. Ski lessons The next day we had a ski lesson booked at Ounasvaara, just 10 mins by taxi from Santa Claus Village. (I downloaded the Maneva taxi app before leaving home. Of course, reception could also organise taxis). After being fitted for our equipment, our family ski lesson went very well. The children were absolute naturals, whilst the adults had great fun laughing at each other! Some were much better than others. We had plenty of time afterwards on the slopes to practice before warming up by the kota. We brought marshmallows (& metal retractable toasting forks from amazon), a flask of hot chocolate & snacks. The Northern Lights The Aurora app told me that the chances of seeing the Northern Lights that night were good. The children were exhausted after their day skiing, so we decided to stay home & relax for the evening. Keeping an eye on my phone, when the app told me that it was the best time, I put on my jacket, boots etc & ventured out into the snow & only a few yards from our cottage I seen them! Fabulous! Our last day On our last morning we met Santa at his office (free of charge), crossed the arctic circle & one of our absolute highlights - we visited Elf’s farmyard where we walked through the snowy forest with reindeer. Back at the farmyard we seen some other animals, slid down the hills on sleds, warmed up by the kota & slid some more. The children were happy to do this all day. Believe me, Lapland is not all about Santa; In fact, we could have skipped that part completely! Would I recommend Lapland? Wholeheartedly!! Would I return? YES!! Without a doubt!! Lapland is a very special place – a winter wonderland. We had an amazing holiday & in my opinion, the memories of this trip far outweigh those of a traditional week in the sun. Holiday options If you are travelling early in the season (November/early December), flying with Ryanair to Rovaniemi, bear in mind that you may be lucky/unlucky with snowfall. (Apukka Resort has its own snow machine in case of emergencies!). And you may wish to travel a little further North for a better chance of snow. The Lapland holiday packages departing in December are based on charter flights to airports further north, with set departure dates & itineraries. On these trips everything is taken care of & it is a truly magical experience. These packages are hugely popular & for good reason. However, they tend to book out well in advance, so please contact me as early as possible if this is something that you are interested in booking. This award-winning property is situated within 10 minutes of Rovaniemi airport, in a tranquil location on a wooded hill, with breath-taking views. Arctic Snow hotel & Glass Igloos is situated approx. 30 minutes from Rovaniemi airport on the shores of Lake Lehtojarvi. At the snow hotel, everything is made of snow & ice each year (beds are made of ice & you sleep in special sleeping bags), plus an ice restaurant, ice bar, ice chapel (where you can get married or renew your vows) & a snow sauna. With a 360-degree glass roof, the Glass Igloos provide the best possible views of the sky.

Singapore We flew Singapore Airlines A380 from London to Singapore, which was excellent with great service, food and entertainment. Changi Airport in Singapore is award-winning and offers a movie theatre, a rain vortex (the largest indoor waterfall in the world), playground, butterfly garden, an indoor forest, a 12 metre high slide and an entertainment corner with video games, all complimentary. There are also plenty of shops, restaurants and a spa. Singapore is renowned for its modern skyline & futuristic architecture, but it is also a city rich in history & culture. It is a great city for any traveller. It is very clean & safe, with excellent transportation & a range of fantastic attractions. Not forgetting the food, the shopping & the nightlife! During our 3 night stay, we visited the super tree grove and the cloud forest at Gardens by the Bay. We had lunch at the nearby Marina Bay Sands at an outdoor terrace overlooking the city. Don't miss the water, sound & light show in the evenings at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade! We also took a ride on the Singapore flyer, one of the largest observation wheels in the world. We had dinner at the entertainment area of Clarke Quay & shopped til we dropped at Orchard Road. We walked around Little India, Kampong Glam Muslim quarter & the markets in China Town where we had a meal at the hawker stalls. And of course, a must whilst in Singapore, we had to have a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel. Sentosa Island is 15 mins by taxi from the city. The sky luge and zip wire are great fun, as is the fish spa! You will also find Universal Studios, the SEA aquarium and Madame Tussauds here, plus many beach clubs. Elephant Hills, Thailand I have travelled to Thailand many times, including a 1 month trip from North to South. This time myself and my friend looked forward to staying in a luxury tented camp at Elephant Hills in Khao Sok National Park & built our holiday itinerary around this. It is easily accessible from the surrounding area of Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi & even Koh Samui. Elephant Hills offers 2-4 day stays and includes transfers, accommodation on a full board basis plus all activities, with the highlight being the elephant interaction where you can feed and bathe them. There are cookery lessons, boat trips, hikes & kayaking also included. Accommodation whilst being in a tent, includes proper double or twin beds, an ensuite bathroom with shower, hair dryer etc. There is a swimming pool with amazing tropical & mountain views. Why not choose the itinerary which includes a night at the Rainforest camp, floating on the lake, where you can swim and kayak. Koh Samui After Elephant Hills, we were transferred to the pier for our ferry to Koh Samui. We were met the other side & brought to our hotel. We stayed in a 2 bedroom private pool villa at the Tongsai Bay Samui with stunning sea views. I have been sending Honeymoon couples to this 5 star resort for many years. I was very much looking forward to finally experiencing this property for myself! The hotel is set 28 acres around a private bay with an exclusive beach front. It has a very laid-back vibe. The food was excellent, as was the service. The spa was fabulous! There are a number of pools to choose from, as well as water sports, tennis court & a kids club. Accommodation ranges from hillside suites, to the most popular – the Beachfront Suites & Seafront Suites with sea view & outdoor bathtub. The Seaview Hillside Pool Suites include a private plunge pool on the open-air balcony, complete with signature ‘bath with a view’. Villa options include 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom & 3 bedroom, plus wellbeing villas with a private in-room exercise area. The food everywhere in Thailand is superb! We visited the Fishermans Village at Bophut Beach with its restaurants & bars. Bophut beach is a great place to chill out. It is very tranquil with a lovely atmosphere. We also visited the main resort of Chaweng Beach, which is a lot busier. This beach is stunning – a large pristine white sandy beach with a host of water sports, dining and accommodation options. There are plenty of attractions & day trips on offer in Koh Samui including the Big Buddha, markets, hikes, waterfalls, ATV tours, golf, day spas & boat trips including snorkelling & kayaking at Angthong Marine Park. Ferries as well as private hotel boat shuttles connect Koh Samui to Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan, making it is very easy to island hop. Why not split your stay between these islands & spend 7 nights at Koh Samui followed by 3-4 nights at Koh Tao or Koh Pha Ngan? I have always travelled long haul & love staying in amazing hotels around the world, but with 2 small children my holiday requirements had changed somewhat (expanded).. I still wanted a fabulous long sandy beach that I could walk or run along, lots of restaurants to dine at with great food and service, a swimming pool for the hubby and some activities to keep us occupied; However, I now also needed somewhere safe for children, that wasn't too busy, with age appropriate facilities & activities… Quite a tall order, but I thankfully found Sani Resort, which fit the bill perfectly! No matter where we ate, the food was always excellent. The service was impeccable & always very warm & friendly. You can avail of a set menu at various restaurants or choose to dine a la carte with a credit towards your meal. You can pre-book restaurants on the resort app or at the concierge desk. I loved that we could choose where we wanted to dine & were not limited to our chosen hotel. We could have an a la carte breakfast with fantastic views, lunch at a beachside restaurant or by the pool & dinner in a traditional Greek restaurant at the Marina. My favourite was The Beach House at Sani Dunes, which had amazing food & the most comfortable loungers. We tried the Asian restaurant one evening, which did not disappoint with plenty of options for children. The Italian restaurant was also a big hit. Nightlife includes live music, parties on the beach & white night events at Bousoulas Beach Club. We attended the white night event with the children & they had great fun dancing together with their little friends for a short time before we called it a night. It was great to be able to enjoy it together, even for a short time. A day at Sani Resort After breakfast one morning the children danced around to Peppa Pig in the kids club pretending that they were jumping in muddy puddles, before we moved on to the playground & children's splash pool. After lunch, we rented a pedal boat which had a slide into the water. Life jackets with whistles were provided for the kids. They had great fun blowing the whistles & instructing us where to ‘sail’ to next. We then spent time making sand castles & burying each other in the sand, before getting ready for a lovely sunset meal. Overall, I would return to Sani Resort in a heartbeat & I don't say that about many places; Variety is the spice of life after all, but it really is this good. It is also a great option for a multi-generational holiday in my opinion. With a wide variety of accommodation options, excellent dining, it is very safe & easy to get around & there is so much to do to suit all ages. I would recommend that you put Sani high on your travel wish list! And book early!

Having visited Dubai a number of times over the past 15 years, it never ceases to amaze me. I always thoroughly enjoy my time there & always look forward to returning again. It is a very safe & clean, very modern city with year-round sunshine, diverse cultures, luxury hotels, fantastic restaurants, sugar sand beaches plus activities found nowhere else. You name it, they have it! From indoor skiing, sky diving, the world’s deepest swimming pool to the world’s tallest building, stunning fountain shows, water parks & theme parks. NYE in Dubai is amazing with its firework shows! For a taste of old Dubai, visit the museums & souks or take a ride on an abra water taxi. The 4WD desert safaris are great fun. Dubai offers something for everyone & can be as laid-back or as busy as you wish. Whilst it is a city, it has over 70km of coastline & there are plenty of opportunities for rest & relaxation. Dubai is often a transit point when flying to a wide range of worldwide destinations & therefore makes a great city stopover. It is one of the most popular Honeymoon destinations when combined with the Indian Ocean, Asia, Africa or Australia/New Zealand. However, Dubai is a fantastic holiday destination in its own right. If you visit as a city stopover for 2 or 3 nights, I can guarantee that you will want to return. There are fabulous things to do year-round that won’t cost a Dirham. Plus, during low season (our Summertime) when the city really heats up, there are lots of discounts on restaurants, attractions & tours. Plan in advance & mix things up. Here are some of my personal favourites: Atlantis the Palm is an iconic beach resort perfect for families, featuring Aquaventure - the world’s largest water park & the Lost Chambers Aquarium. Atlantis the Royal opened in February 2023 as a new icon of Dubai with its sky blaze fountain, elegant suites & elevated dining & nightlife. It brands itself as ‘the most ultra-luxury experiential resort in the world.’ I can testify that the suites are stunning & the food is amazing! Between the 2 properties, Atlantis is the ultimate foodie destination with the worlds most renowned chefs & the regions most awarded Michelin stars. A good option for groups of friends or for families is the Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah, where all rooms have a sea view & balcony as standard & most rooms can be interconnected. It has a great choice of restaurants & bars. For a busier location, there are many hotels & apartments close to Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) & the Marina. Delta Hotels by Marriott Jumeirah Beach is within walking distance of the public beach at JBR, ‘The Walk’ with its restaurants & shops plus the Dubai metro. Accommodation includes 1, 2, 3 & 4 bedroom apartments. If you are looking for somewhere more low-key, Bvlgari Resort Dubai offers a discreet, luxurious stay where staff go above & beyond to ensure a seamless experience, including 24-hour personal butler service, private beach cabanas, a yacht club & marina. I was blown away by this property. Whilst it feels serene & secluded, it is less than 15 minutes to Downtown Dubai & the Burj Khalifa. Accommodation ranges from superior rooms to multi-bedroom private pool villas, all beautifully designed. Caesars Palace on Blue waters Island offers something very different & is another of my personal recommendations for where to stay in Dubai for an adults-only stay or a Honeymoon. It is a luxury property, on a pristine private beach but with the sound of the waves & an uninterrupted view of the sea! There are plenty of boutique shops & restaurants in the area, plus Ain Dubai (the world’s highest observation wheel). There is also a pedestrian bridge linking blue waters Island to busy JBR (approx. 15 – 20-minute walk or cycle). If you are looking for a vibrant, modern hotel with style & plenty of fun, I would highly recommend W Dubai the Palm. It has a lively pool scene, fabulous stretch of private beach, great choice of dining venues, plus their renowned ‘whatever whenever’ service with 24-hour concierge desk & 24-hour room service. Its sister property W Dubai Mina Seyahi is situated on Jumeirah Beach. A fantastic location close to all the action. It is an adults-only hotel, a first for the W hotel group, with a boutique feel & glamorous accommodations. This hotel offers amazing views of the city & the Arabian Gulf. Again, its legendary ‘whatever whenever’ service provides what you need when you need it. One & Only Royal Mirage has been a favourite of mine since I first visited Dubai. This resort situated on Jumeirah Beach features 3 hotels – The Arabian Court, The Palace & the Residence & Spa, but still manages to feel like a peaceful haven with 65 acres of gardens, water fountains & pathways plus 1km of private beach. It feels very Arabic in character with palatial rooms, excellent facilities & an array of activities suitable for couples or families. Its sister property One & Only the Palm is a secluded sanctuary perfect for couples, a boutique style hideaway with just 90 rooms & suites plus 4 beachfront villas. The Park Hyatt Dubai is a fabulous option for a shorter stay. It is located at Dubai Creek, close to old Dubai. It is approx. 15 – 20 mins to La Mer Beach & to Downtown Dubai. This property features a stunning pool with palm trees & a fabulous spa. It is adjacent to the world-famous Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. The Burj Al Arab is a lavish, over the top, opulent hotel. I have visited & dined here many times, however I also had the pleasure of experiencing their new ‘Inside Burj Al Arab’ tour this year, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It is the first time in its history that it has opened to non-guests. If this hotel is not to your taste or budget, I would recommend the tour to get a glimpse of their Royal Suite which has hosted many Presidents, Royalty & music icons. Having never been on a cruise holiday before and constantly hearing from many people about how great they are, I decided to bite the bullet and try it for myself. I love to explore, but I also love the beach and was afraid that this type of holiday just wouldn’t be my cup of tea. Here’s my honest opinion and what I learned. We sailed onboard MSC World Europa, a brand-new ship with a great selection of restaurants and facilities, suitable for families. I booked a balcony cabin with drinks package and a speciality dining package. It was a 5-day cruise from Naples to Marseilles with stops at Messina in Sicily, Malta and Barcelona. We spent a number of nights beforehand in Rome and then took the high-speed train (1 hour) to Naples, where we had a few hours to eat pizza and explore the city before boarding our cruise ship. Before departure I downloaded the MSC for me app. It has a countdown to your cruise, which the kids loved. Our first impression was that the ship was huge! We could not get over the scale of it. My 6-year-old daughter asked if there was a city onboard when she seen it! Our stateroom had bunk beds for the children and felt more spacious than I had anticipated. The bathroom and wardrobe space were small, but with the bags stored under the bed, it didn’t feel cramped. Our balcony had a table, 2 chairs and fabulous sea views. There was so much to see that we didn’t get off the ship at Messina on our 2nd day! I was outvoted. The kids were so excited and wanted to explore and experience everything onboard. There is a kids club (plus teens club) with activities throughout the day plus a sports centre with football, roller skating and even bumper cars! The Aurora Borealis Aquapark is suitable for small children and there are water slides for older children and adults plus a number of swimming pools (one with a retractable roof) and hot tubs, with plenty of sun loungers. This ship also features the Venom Drop, an 11-deck high stainless-steel slide which you enter through a snake’s mouth and arrive at the Promenade below. The promenade is an outdoor area with coffee shop, restaurants and a bar as well as street performers. It runs along the centre of the ship and opens out to the back of the ship. It was lovely to sit outside the bar here on comfy seats and enjoy live music and a drink while we sailed out of port. The indoor promenade called the World Galleria has an LED roof which changes design. It has a number of shops, restaurants and bars in this area. We found that even though the ship was huge, it was so easy to get around. You are only ever a few minutes away from anywhere onboard. There are a number of theatres and entertainment venues. The shows were excellent. You do need to prebook them onboard on the MSC app or on the screens throughout the ship. There is a gym and a spa onboard plus a number of games arcades including VR, Formula 1 etc. I would recommend that you buy an entertainment pass on the MSC app before your holiday. It costs €80 total, but gives you €140 in credit to use onboard for the arcades, bumper cars etc. There’s plenty of activities around the main La Plage pool and a more chilled out vibe inside at the Botanic Garden Pool. There is also an adults-only Zen pool. As a family, we preferred the buffet restaurants to the main dining room. As part of our speciality dining package, we had dinner at the Sushi bar, the steakhouse and Chefs Garden Kitchen overseen by Michelin chef Niklas Ekstedt, with a first-at-sea hydroponic garden. We also had lunch at Hola Tacos and Cantina speciality Mexican restaurant. This was great value at just €17 per adult for all you can eat. All were fantastic. There are a number of bars to choose from, including Masters of the Sea pub, Fizz champagne bar, Elixir mixology bar and Gin Project, as well as bars by the pools. There is also a speakeasy onboard (by invitation only and not included in drinks packages). I didn’t get to visit the Raj Polo tea house, but it looked lovely and also serves afternoon tea. There is also a chocolate bar and shop onboard where you can design your own chocolate bars. The kids loved this. Which type of accommodation should you book?... There are many options to choose from. An interior cabin is the best value. This would mean that you have no natural daylight, which you may be happy with if you plan to spend very little time there. The next category up is an ocean view. We chose a balcony cabin and would highly recommend it, especially for a special holiday or a Honeymoon. I ordered room service for our breakfast in Malta and we sat out enjoying the view, which was fabulous. Some cruises have different balcony cabin options. MSC World Europa have a ‘balcony with partial view’ which overlooks the promenade. If you wish to elevate your stay, you can upgrade to the MSC Yacht club. This gives you more spacious suite accommodation, 24-hour butler service, luggage packing and unpacking, 24-hour room service, an exclusive area of the ship including a Panoramic lounge, a private pool deck with sunbathing areas, an outdoor bar and whirlpool, an a la carte gourmet restaurant with anytime dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Whilst at Ocean Cay (MSC Cruises private island in the Bahamas), yacht club guests can enjoy added extras including a private beach, access to cabanas, towel service, concierge service, a restaurant, unlimited drinks and more. Overall, we had an amazing holiday. It exceeded our expectations. We loved the facilities onboard and found that there was so much to see and do. The service and the standard of food etc. was excellent. We would definitely book another cruise holiday. I would highly recommend a cruise for a holiday or a Honeymoon. As you have read above, it is a fantastic option for families. It would a great option for people with walking difficulties / wheelchair users, as there is plenty of space and it is so easy to get around the ship. For an adults-only holiday or a Honeymoon, you may want a more peaceful adults-orientated experience and to therefore choose a cruise which has no facilities for children, so the likelihood of there being any onboard would be minimal and/or to travel during school term. With beautiful scenery, natural wonders, fascinating archaeological sites, warm friendly people, delicious food and guaranteed sunshine, Jordan is a wonderful country to explore. March to May is the best time to travel to Jordan, as well as September to November. The temperatures are pleasant and diving conditions at the Gulf of Aqaba are at their best. During the summer it can get unbearably hot and during the winter nights can be very cold. It is a very safe destination, however because its highlights are spread throughout the country, you’ll need to hire a driver or book a tour. We had a week to spend in Jordan, but there is so much to see, that we couldn’t fit everything in within that time. This included Jerash unfortunately, an ancient city north of Amman. Our must-see areas included the Dead Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum. We didn’t want to rush and we knew that there would be a lot of travelling, so we ensured that we spent a reasonable amount of time at these areas, whilst stopping off at numerous points on our journey. We spent a couple of nights at the 5 star modern Kempinski Ishtar Dead Sea, where we relaxed, sunbathed and 1 of us floated in the Dead Sea whilst the other sat on a rock with their legs floating! I am still laughing at this!! This is the lowest point on earth at 400 metres below sea level. The seas high salinity means you float effortlessly. When you get out, cover your body in Dead Sea mud for its detoxifying and therapeutic effects. It is rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium and iron. Huge tubs are provided on the shore and there are showers to wash off. You can also use Dead Sea salt as a scrub. It is quite a sight seeing people walk around covered head to toe in mud! The swimming pools at the Kempinski are amazing, especially at sunrise and sunset. You could easily cut your stay here down to just 1 night and in hindsight it may be best to leave this part to the end of your itinerary, as it is one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in. Save the best until last! The Dead Sea is on the border between Jordan and Israel, as is the River Jordan. We also visited the ancient town of Madaba and Mount Nebo, before arriving at the beautiful 5-star Petra Marriott Hotel, our home for the next couple of nights. This hotel is traditional in style and is in a great location. A cold towel and refreshing drink were very welcome. We had prebooked ‘Petra by Night’, which was the absolute highlight of our trip to Jordan. It is one of the most breathtaking ways to experience this UNESCO World Heritage Site. After checking-in at the visitors centre, you walk through the candlelit Siq (gorge) until you reach The Treasury, where you take your seat behind 1500 candles and listen to stories and music, with the stars glistening above. Petra was the capital city of the Nabataeans from roughly 300 BC to 100 AD, when the Romans took charge. Several earthquakes destroyed much of the city and Petra was abandoned. For centuries Petra was left untouched, until it was discovered by a Swiss explorer in 1812. The Treasury is the most famous site, a tomb for the Nabataean King Aretas III, carved out of the sandstone mountains. But there is so much more to see! The next day we had an early morning wake up call, to make the most of our time here, as the area is huge and involves a lot of walking. You can also take a camel or donkey ride. If you wish to visit the Monastery, you will need to hike 800 steps. Make sure you wear a hat, comfortable walking shoes and bring plenty of water. After the Treasury, you will come to a wide-open area with tombs and houses built into the mountains. You will pass the Royal Tombs of Nabataean royalty, the colonnaded street built by the Romans and The Great Temple. You will then have the option to hike to the Monastery, which I would highly recommend. There is a small restaurant to grab a coffee or juice and a bite to eat and to rest your legs with views of the Monastery, before making your way back down. Our next stop was the Wadi Rum desert, which is like a scene out of Star Wars. Many movies were filmed in this area. It has incredible desert scenery, red martian sand, rock arches, Bedouin camps, wild camels and desert flowers. We travelled by 4WD to the camp, approx. 2 hours from Petra. We enjoyed an evening with other guests, dining on authentic Jordanian ‘Zarb, a BBQ cooked in an underground oven. We also had twin beds and an ensuite bathroom with shower in our tent. I took a sunrise camel ride the following morning and had tea with my small group of early-risers and our Bedouin guide. My travel companion slept soundly! Our next stop was Aqaba on the Red Sea, approx. 1 hour from Wadi Rum. Aqaba is a bustling tourist resort with plenty of restaurants, shops, souks and nightlife. It is the gateway to some of the best snorkelling and diving sites in the Red Sea. Its gorgeous coral reefs are teeming with wildlife. TIP: If you want to escape the crowds, plan your diving trip around the South Red Sea. The reefs are in pristine condition and at sites like Marsa Alam, Elphinstone Reef and Abu Dadaab you’ll see sharks, turtles, and an abundance of colourful marine life. There are also dolphin boat tours, sunset cruises and glass bottom boat trips from Aqaba. Mamluk Castle, also known as Aqaba Fort dates, back to the 1500s. There are plenty of hotels to choose from in this area. Souk by the Sea is an evening street market held every Friday with local handmade crafts and goods produced by the local community. My recommendation would be the 5-star modern Kempinski Hotel Aqaba Red Sea. It is a beautiful hotel on the beach in a peaceful location, whilst still being close enough to the centre. The drive from Aqaba back to Amman takes approx. 5-6 hours. It is also possible to fly from Aqaba to Amman. Disneyland Paris is a magical holiday like no other, sure to excite every child and create memories that you will cherish forever. Our children were 5 and 6 years old when we surprised them with a 3-night trip. I created a little box with clues. I told them that we were going on a holiday the following morning and asked them to guess where we were going. Their little faces were priceless as they guessed and eventually got it right. I'm not sure how they actually slept that night in hindsight, but they were up bright and early for the flight screeching with excitement. We flew Transavia from Dublin to Paris Orly. Having been to Paris CDG airport a number of times, I was pleasantly surprised by Orly. It is not as big and is much easier to navigate. We didn’t have far to walk and there weren’t any big queues. Paris CDG is a much larger airport and offers more flights (both Aer Lingus and Air France fly daily from Dublin). This is the most popular airport, with a lot of people choosing to fly on the first flight from Dublin to arrive as early as possible and to return home on an evening flight, making the most of their time there. It is worth comparing the airfares. I pre-booked private airport transfers, which was a great call. Instead of having to travel to a shuttle bus timetable and wait for lots of other passengers to board and then be dropped off at numerous hotels, we had a driver waiting for us on arrival that took us straight to our hotel. This was much more convenient and was much quicker. We spent 3 nights at the 4-star Dream Castle Hotel, a partner hotel to Disneyland Paris. Our Disneyland Paris theme park tickets were included as well as complimentary area shuttle bus. Breakfast was included each morning. There are different offers throughout the year, but at the time of booking this 4-star hotel with breakfast was the same price as a 2-star Disney hotel with no breakfast included. I chose the higher standard of accommodation and the best value, which worked for us. Of course, if there is not much in the price difference, or if the budget permits, you may opt for a Disney hotel which has many perks including being closer to the theme parks, admission to the parks 1 hour before general opening and the opportunity to meet Disney characters at the hotels. Dream Castle is an elegant French style hotel with lovely gardens and excellent facilities including a pool, a children’s indoor play area and an arcade. Our room was very spacious and was a really good standard, with fabulous built in bunk beds for the children. We had lunch in the hotel, before going to the theme parks. The food was lovely. How to plan your trip to Disneyland Paris… Once you have chosen your dates and confirmed your booking (with flights, airport transfers, accommodation and theme park passes), I would recommend that you plan ahead for what you will see and do. It will be worth it in the long run. Download the Disneyland Paris app to research the rides that your children might like and that would be suitable for their age/height. Save your favourites so that you can refer back to them quickly. The app will also show live queue times and you can even order food from some outlets and pick it up when it is ready, saving time queueing. There is a lot to see and do between the 2 parks (Disneyland Paris and Disney Studios) as well as the shows and parades!! Little legs get tired and kids get cranky, so try not to pack too much in. This is a holiday for the children and you want them to enjoy it. I would recommend having 2-3 priorities each day, seeing where they are located and what is nearby to tie in easily. Disneyland Paris is busy year-round, especially during weekends and school holidays. Whilst it may be less expensive to visit in January, the weather will not be as good, the parks will be open for a shorter duration each day and not all rides may operate. We chose to visit mid-October, as my daughter absolutely loves Halloween and dressing up. (Halloween season runs from 1st October at Disneyland Paris). The parks were decorated in a festive Halloween theme and it was really magical. 2022 was also the 30th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris and there were nightly drone and firework shows, which was spectacular. We found that Friday was perfectly fine and the queues were manageable, however Saturday was crazy from lunchtime onwards. We waited over an hour for 1 ride which then lasted approx. 4 minutes! We took the train to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower on Sunday, as this was a dream for my 6-year-old (I created a Paris scavenger hunt and they had great fun ticking things off their list as the day went on). We visited the Disney parks again on Monday, which was so much quieter. If you want to avoid crowds as much as possible, I recommend avoiding weekends completely and staying midweek. My children are very different to each other, with one that absolutely loves roller coasters and the other nearly being allergic to them. They both enjoyed the musicals and Animation Academy. They loved Ratatouille and went on this a couple of times. Spider Man Web Adventures was a big hit with all of us. My youngest is a big Toy Story fan and she loved Buzz Lightyear laser blast plus Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop, whilst her 6-year-old sister said that her favourite was Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain! The face-painting is amazing at Disneyland Paris and worth splashing out on. Like Ireland, the weather is quite changeable. We had a lot of rain one day and the next it was sunny. We were definitely glad that we brought raincoats, spare runners (as they got completely soaked!) plus lots of snacks and refillable water bottles. We didn’t prebook any restaurants or dining with characters, however if we do return, I would book Chez Remy which is at the end of the Ratatouille ride. Everything is so big that you feel like you are a mouse in the giant kitchen. Overall, like most in-demand holidays, I would recommend booking as early as possible and then paying off the cost when it suits. Konnichiwa Japan is one of the most fascinating countries in the world. The land of the rising sun mixes ancient history and traditions with the newest technology. It is a place where people hold the past and the future in equal esteem. You can learn to craft origami and visit modern art installations; visit a peaceful shrine or Japanese garden and have dinner at a crazy robot restaurant; experience a traditional tea ceremony with a Geisha and sing to your hearts content at a karaoke bar. Smart toilets with numerous functions are the norm. You will find vending machines on streets even in the tiniest villages that sell hot and cold drinks, ice cream, hot ramen dishes, eggs and even disposable cameras, tights and umbrellas. Japanese culture is very different and this is why we love it so much. The people are very polite, orderly, mannerly and friendly. It is very safe and very clean. Japan is home to the largest city on the planet, a vast metropolitan area of 37 million people. Public transport may seem daunting at first but it is so convenient and easy to use. We chose to visit Japan in Spring, during the famous Sakura (cherry blossom) season. It is so eagerly awaited that it is tracked by the meteorological office, with a dedicated forecast on the national news. Hanami is the traditional custom of cherry blossom viewing. As soon as the flowers open on the trees, family and friends gather beneath them for picnics in parks across the country. As a rule of thumb, the best time to visit Japan is late spring or early autumn as the temperatures are mild with little rainfall. On our 2-week trip, we visited Kyoto & Arashiyama with its bamboo forest, Hiroshima and Miyajima Island, Takayama and Lake Kawaguchiko, stopping off enroute to visit Matsumoto Castle, finishing in Tokyo. If you are short on time, you could concentrate on Kyoto and Tokyo, taking a bullet train between the 2. I am a seasoned traveller and I am glad that I had prebooked a tailor-made package. I had researched everything about Japan and had bought a guidebook to take with me, but I was glad to have our itinerary pre-organised and to be met on arrival at the airport. We stayed in fantastic accommodation, a traditional machiya townhouse in Kyoto, hotels with futons and tatami mats for beds plus private onsens and modern spacious hotels. We had a private walking tour with a local in Kyoto and also in Tokyo. I found this great, as we not only got to learn more about the area and local life in Japan, we visited some of the main sights with our guide, but we also used public transport as part of these tours and were confident to then travel around the cities ourselves over the following days. In Kyoto we visited Nijo Castle, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kinkaku-ji (golden pavilion), Ryoan-ji temple and zen garden, Kiyomizu Dera (temple with fantastic views and traditional streets), the traditional Geisha area of Gion, Pontocho with its local restaurants and nightlife, plus Kyoto samurai school. We also visited Arashiyama with its scenic train, river boat, bamboo forest and temples. In Hiroshima we visited the peace memorial park and museum, atomic bomb dome and also took the boat to Miyajima Island with its free roaming deer, Itsukushima Jinga (red Grand Torii Gate in the sea) and the cable car to the top of Mount Misen. In Takayama, a beautifully preserved old mountain town in the Japanese alps, we stayed in a traditional onsen ryokan and visited Takayama Jinja museum, the local market and Hida folk village with its thatched farmhouses. My husband tried the famous Hida beef, a wagyu beef from Japanese black cattle, which are given individualised care and even massages! We stopped off for a couple of hours to visit Matsumoto Castle, also known as Crow Castle due to its black exterior. It is one of the grandest castles in Japan, built in the 16th century with a moat. It is a 15-minute walk from Matsumoto train station. Next stop was Lake Kawaguchiko and Fuji-San. It is a hot-spring resort town with views of Mount Fuji. We enjoyed a kaiseki meal (multi course Japanese dinner with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients), took the hop-on hop-off bus to explore the area and a speedboat on the lake. Our final stop was the bustling city of Tokyo. There is so much to see and do here. We visited Shibuya crossing, the Tokyo sky tree, Senso-ji temple, Ueno Park with its cherry blossoms, a sumo stable, Tsukiji fish market, miraikan museum with its robots and giant moving Gundam. We also visited the Neon area of Shinjuku with its giant Godzilla statue peering over the buildings, the infamous robot restaurant and Golden Gai with its narrow alleys and bars. Whilst the people in Japan are very polite, this does not apply on the subway at rush hour! Very entertaining. Shinjuku currently holds the Guinness World Record for busiest train station. There are 12 train lines, 36 platforms and over 200 exits. If you are looking to visit somewhere very different and Japan is on your bucket list, please do not hesitate to get in touch. If you love food and wine, stunning scenery, wildlife and adventure, South Africa is most definitely for you. There is plenty to suit all ages and interests. With only a 1–2-hour time difference, jetlag is not a problem. It is convenient to get to with excellent airfares available with many airlines and it is excellent value for money. Where you visit in South Africa will depend on how long you have for your trip, the time of year that you travel and your own personal interests. The most popular option for first time visitors would be a self-drive itinerary from Cape Town to the Cape Winelands, continuing along the garden route to Port Elizabeth and finishing with a safari to see the Big 5. There are also private game reserves close to Cape Town if you are short on time, as well as fantastic game viewing at Kruger National Park where you can cover more ground and see a greater variety of landscapes. Victoria Falls can also be accessed by a short 2-hour flight from Johannesburg or 3-hour flight from Cape Town. South Africa has always been very popular with couples, however I travelled with my 2 friends and it was a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime holiday, with lots of fun and great memories. The roads are very good and with driving on the same side as Ireland, it was so easy. (If you are not interested in driving, I can also arrange transfers or a scheduled tour for you instead.) Being in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are the opposite of Europe. We travelled in May and experienced very pleasant temperatures with plenty of sunshine, although we did feel the cold in the mornings and evenings whilst on safari. In Cape Town, we stayed at the bustling V&A Waterfront area, which has lots of restaurants, bars, shops and the Two Oceans Aquarium. It is also the gateway to Robben Island (tours need to be booked in advance). If you are travelling at a time of year with warmer temperatures, you could consider staying in the lovely seaside suburb of Camps Bay. We took the hop-on hop-off bus and the cable car up Table Mountain. Check the weather beforehand to ensure you get the best view, as Table Mountain can be covered by cloud (known locally as the tablecloth). There are plenty of art galleries and museums. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is a lovely way to spend an afternoon and The Old Biscuit Mill offers a Saturday market and food stall. You can also visit the penguins at Boulders Beach, which is a 45 min drive away. Franschhoek is situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands, just 45 minutes from Cape Town. This area is home to a large number of vineyards and is known as South Africa’s gourmet capital. The Wine Tram is a great way to explore the area. You can also prebook a half day or full day wine tasting tour. Our first stop on the garden route was Knysna. The drive from Franschhoek takes approx. 5 hours, so we set off after breakfast and arrived in time for lunch. In Knysna, we stayed at a property on the water’s edge with fabulous views of the lagoon. We visited the town. You can also hike in the surrounding nature reserves or take a boat cruise. Our next stop on the garden route was Plettenberg Bay, a short 45 min drive from Knysna. We stayed in the forested Crags area with stunning views. We visited Monkey land and the Elephant Sanctuary, where we got to brush the elephants and walk with them. We stopped off for lunch at a local vineyard. Plettenberg Bay is known for its pristine coastlines and beaches. We did a boat trip on our last day & seen seals & dolphins. If you’re lucky enough you could also see whales. Tsitsikamma National Park is located between Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth. Here you can take a waterfall zipline tour, quad bike tour, or go abseiling. The most popular short walk is the 2km Storms River Trail which leads to the Storms River suspension bridge. We visited Addo Elephant Park and continued to our private game reserve, situated on the Eastern Cape. Our suites were luxurious and very spacious. The food and wine was exceptional, as was the warm friendly service. The wildlife we seen on our game drives here included: white rhino, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, elephant, lion and warthog. My friend also had an unexpected guest visit her outdoor shower one evening – a very cheeky monkey! We also stayed at a private game reserve for a number of nights in the Timbavati area of Kruger, with incredible game viewing. We had a ranger and tracker on our game drives. In the evening dinner was served in the open air boma. There we met the rest of the guests and chatted about the excitement of the day. After our morning game drive, we spent time relaxing in the pool overlooking the river. After lunch our orders were taken for sundowners and we departed on our afternoon game drive, stopping off in the bush for a cold glass of wine. The wildlife we happened to see in Kruger National Park included: Lion, leopard, buffalo, wildebeest, warthog, elephant, crocodile, hippo, a number of different antelope, as well as kingfishers & eagles. Safaris in South Africa usually include 2 game drives per day plus all meals & beverages. The average stay would be 3 nights, but you can of course stay longer, depending on budget. Safaris on the Eastern Cape are malaria-free, whereas during the wet summer months at Kruger National Park antimalarials and deet spray are recommended. Canada was on my list for many years, but with young children it seemed out of reach. However post-covid, I thought you only live once! Having travelled to Portugal, Spain, and Greece as a family, I decided (really hoped!) that the girls were now old enough (5 and 6) for more of an adventure. Of course, I was a little apprehensive of how they would fare on a long-haul flight, but I was more than willing to take the chance. It would be worth it, wouldn’t it?! I looked at a number of possible itineraries, researching the must-see areas and activities, what would be suitable for children, the weather, the driving distances etc. I planned it down to a T, then showed my husband. He flat out refused to agree to such a trip at first, but I answered all of his questions and concerns and wasn’t taking no for an answer. And as you can see, we did it and I would recommend anyone to do the same. We flew on my daughter’s 5th birthday from Dublin to Calgary, where we picked up our hire car and drove to Banff in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, ready to explore. The roads are fantastic, and it is very easy to drive. Banff National Park is home to glacier mountains, bright blue lakes, forests, waterfalls, and wildlife. It is the most visited National Park in Canada for good reason. I woke early on our first morning, stood out on our veranda and gazed in awe at the mountain scenery in front of me (enjoying the peace and quiet before the rest of the gang woke up). Our hotel was situated at Tunnel Mountain, a 5-minute drive to Banff town centre. This mountain town is very pretty and walkable, with playgrounds, gardens, museums, plenty of shops and restaurants. It ticked all the boxes. After a very hearty breakfast at our hotel (French toast, pancakes, breakfast tacos, Canadian back bacon benny), we drove to Banff Gondola. I had prebooked our entrance for 9.30am along with lunch at the Sky Bistro. This gave us plenty of time to walk around and appreciate the amazing views. After lunch, we drove to nearby Lake Minnewanka for a family cruise. With tales of lake monsters, history and geology, everyone was kept interested. The next day we did a Hoodoo float tour on the Bow River (it was so peaceful that the kids fell asleep!) and then relaxed at Banff upper hot springs. There are horse and carriage rides available from downtown Banff, horse and pony rides at nearby stables, plus the option to book a Cowboy cookout BBQ tour travelling by horseback or wagon. After 3 nights, it was time for us to travel further North to Jasper National Park. We travelled along the Icefields Parkway, one of the most beautiful drives in the world. We prebooked the Colombia Icefield Adventure for lunchtime, giving us plenty of time for our big Canadian breakfast and to stop off along the way. The tour included the icefields explorer on Athabasca Glacier where we walked and threw snowballs on the glacier, plus admission to the Skywalk, a suspended glass platform above the Sunwapta valley. We stopped at Athabasca falls to stretch our legs, before arriving to our accommodation in downtown Jasper. Jasper is much smaller than Banff, but again had lots of places to dine, to shop for souvenirs and the all-important playground. Jasper is known as a dark sky area and for its wildlife, as well as lakes, hot springs and many hiking opportunities. We enjoyed the swimming pool at our accommodation and had booked an evening Wildlife Discovery Tour, which picked us up at our accommodation at 5:30pm. It is 3 ½ hours long. So again, I was a little apprehensive as I might have been pushing it with bedtime (feeling sorry for the other passengers on the coach should things kick off), but it went without a hitch, and it was a fantastic experience. We were well used to amazing scenery by now, but not long into the tour we seen bears! Lots of them, as well as eagles, moose and elk. The following day we went kayaking on Emerald Lake with 1 adult and 1 child per kayak. There was great competition, rewarded afterwards with smores by the fire on the edge of the lake. After lunch we drove to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for the Jasper Planetarium and Telescope tour. The kids were amazed. We then had 1 final night in Canada, which we spent at Lake Louise to break up the journey back to Calgary. We played crazy golf at our hotel and had a bite to eat before visiting the lake that evening, which was perfect timing and not too busy. Lake Louise itself is stunning, with turquoise glacier fed waters, mountains and hiking trails. The walk around the edge of the lake is a definite highlight of our time in Canada. There were little pikas which the children followed and tried to catch! Then it was a quick drive over to nearby Moraine Lake, which again is an absolute must-see. We walked around the shoreline. This is a rockier area and less touristy than Lake Louise. The water is so clear, it is like a mirror. After celebrating Canada Day in Lake Louise with face painting, games and bouncy castles, our last stop was an evening in Calgary before our flight home. We visited Telus Spark Science Centre, watched the latest kids’ movie at Cineplex Odeon and had a bite to eat. There is plenty more to do in Calgary including Calgary Zoo, Calgary Sky Tower, shopping, hockey, basketball and a little further afield is the Royal Tyrrell Museum Drumheller and Dinosaur Provincial Park, for any dinosaur crazy kids. NOTE: You will need to purchase a National Park family pass, either online or on arrival. We bought ours at a pop-up booth at Lake Minnewanka, however you can also purchase them at the Banff Visitor Centre. Tahiti and Bora Bora are words that evoke images of water villas over crystal clear lagoons, abundant marine life, soaring volcanic peaks, lush tropical landscapes and Polynesian culture with tattooed warriors and traditional dances. I can only describe this destination as heaven on earth, as it was described when it was first discovered. It is a place of beauty and tranquillity that you will not find elsewhere. Having travelled throughout the Indian Ocean and Caribbean, French Polynesia appealed to me as offering something more. As it turns out, it offers a lot more. It is quite a journey to get there but let me tell you that it is absolutely worth it. We stopped in San Francisco and Yosemite National Park, before flying via Los Angeles to the main island of Tahiti. We were met on arrival by the sound of the ukelele and a flower lei was placed around our necks whilst we witnessed a Polynesian dance performance. We had landed in paradise! Our first stop was the island of Moorea, known for its pineapple, mango, and papaya, which we reached by catamaran. Sitting up on the top deck gave us a fabulous view of our surroundings and the excitement grew even further. We spent a number of nights in a beach villa just steps away from the shore and took a 4-wheel drive tour to Belvedere lookout with stunning views of Cooks Bay and Opunohu Bay. We visited the historic Marae Titiroa & as we travelled back to our hotel, the road winding around these bays was picture perfect, with freshly caught colourful local fish for sale on the roadside. There are hikes, ziplines, sunset cruises & plenty of watersports activities including surfing. We flew to Bora Bora, where the peaks of Mount Otemanu and Mount Pahia are visible through the clouds, the only remnants of an ancient extinct volcano. Bora Bora is surrounded by a lagoon, reef and motus (tiny islands). The perfect place to say, ‘I do.’ I was lucky to have a window seat on this flight and did not budge from the view. Our traditional Polynesian villa had a private garden with a pool and gazebo. The morning of our wedding, we walked barefoot to the beach where we were taken by outrigger canoe to our ceremony site, greeted by the Master of Ceremonies, with local musicians beating drums and beautiful dancers. Our adventures in Bora Bora also included a lagoon boat tour, swimming with black tip reef sharks, rays, and lemon sharks, stopping at a tiny deserted motu for a BBQ lunch. We visited the mainland of Bora Bora one evening and dined at Bloody Marys. It is also possible to rent a jet ski or glass bottom canoe, take a helicopter flight, cycle on the main island and to hike the Valley of the Kings trail. After Bora Bora, we travelled to the tiny island of Taha’a for our Honeymoon. Taha'a is known for producing Tahitian pearls & the most fragrant vanilla on earth. Our expansive villa was again Polynesian in style, had its own pool and gazebo, and it was right on the beach where we had our own hammocks. We witnessed a fire dance on the beach, snorkelled amongst colourful fish in the coral garden with the silhouette of Bora Bora in the distance, ate the most fabulous food and totally relaxed. We stopped off in Los Angeles and New York on our way home for some sightseeing. But I really didn’t want this trip to ever end!
