Abu Dhabi - The Ultimate Honeymoon Destination

Ultimate relaxation in luxury resorts, spa treatments, private pool villas, amazing food choices or a more active adventure with safari, water sports, theme parks, shopping, culture and nightlife? I’m here to tell you that Abu Dhabi offers all that and more! The best part? It’s one direct flight from Dublin! I travelled to Abu Dhabi direct from Dublin with Etihad Airways. I flew business class on the way out and economy on the way home and couldn’t fault either option. Etihad were amazing to fly with. I would highly recommend flying business class, even for one leg of the journey, it’s an incredible experience you’re not going to forget!

When we arrived in Abu Dhabi, we made our way to Sir Bani Yas Island by a private transfer and then speed boat. Sir Bani Yas Island is such a beautiful island resort with luxury accommodation to suit every type of Honeymoon Couple.

There are two main types of villas on offer here. Al Yam Villas are similar to the Maldives – white sands, private pool overlooking the beach, pure luxury.

Al Sahel Villas are for the more outdoorsy couples with a private pool overlooking the wilderness with animals roaming free.

Also on the island is the Desert Islands Resort and Spa. This is a beautiful 5-star hotel where the staff can arrange a romantic meal for two on the sand at sunset – perfect for a proposal or Honeymoon.

While staying on this island you can take part in numerous activities such as water sports, safari, spa treatments, or my personal favourite – a nature walk with giraffes! After a few nights on Sir Bani Yas, it was time to get the speedboat back to the mainland and a private transfer to the desert or the Empty Quarter as it is otherwise known as.

Qsar Al Sarab is the most amazing 5-star resort in the middle of the desert with incredible views wherever you turn.

Qsar Al Sarab translates to “Mirage Palace” and that is exactly what it is. The architecture and attention to detail along with the food and service is what makes this a 5-star resort and a firm favourite film location. Of course, I had to try the spa here for research purposes and I can confirm it is truly amazing. You really feel like you are getting away from it all. Aside from all that relaxing and luxury, there is an exciting action-packed side to Abu Dhabi too.

On my last night I went to the W Hotel on Yas Island in the city. This 5-star hotel is built over the Formula 1 racetrack with 80% of the rooms facing the track. It is a very sleek and stylish hotel with a rooftop bar – perfect for a night of celebration.

Yas island is also home to the theme parks of Ferrari World and Warner Brothers Studios. They are all indoors with air con so are bearable for those of us not used to such high temperatures in the summer. Certain hotels offer free theme park passes with your stay. Abu Dhabi is also famous for its stunning architecture – the Grand Mosque is a must see – and shopping of course.
