Maldives "Heaven on Earth"
The Maldives was always on my "bucket list". I did drop down briefly at Male Airport en route to Sri Lanka a few years back and got a bird’s eye view of the many Islands that make up the archipelago so was very excited to experience the Maldives on a family holiday.
As a mum of teenagers who are quite sporty, I knew that the many water -sports activities that the Maldives had to offer would be so appealing to the kids as would the unique experience of a sea plane transfer to reach our Island of choice.
Travel Counsellors have a very good relationship with one of our travel partners, Island Marketing with whom we organise many special trips for clients to the Island resort of Kuramathi Island. Kuramathi is one of the largest of the Islands with a great selection of top-quality restaurants. I do love to be able to "dine around" when on holiday and I must say the choice of restaurants, the quality of the food and service was top notch. We had a wonderful and varying dining experience each night during our 9-day stay.
We were very lucky to enjoy business class air travel with Qatar Airways on the way to the Maldives, one of the top airlines in the world. The service was exceptional, and the kids were beside themselves with excitement when we surprised them upon check-in with the upgrade.
On arrival we were met by a representative of Kuramathi and transferred to a very comfortable airport lounge where we could enjoy refreshments whilst waiting on our seaplane transfer. The seaplane journey took about 20 mins and really did offer us an unforgettable view of the stunning islands below.
We were brought by buggy from reception to our 2 Bedroom Beach House and everything about this accommodation and setting just took my breath away. Imagine waking up to your own private beachfront, sipping a coffee from the sundeck and going for an early morning snorkel steps from our room before heading for breakfast. That summed up our first morning and it was so special.
Our days were very chilled, relaxing on the beach or by the pool. We all snorkelled every day and the kids tried their hands at diving, paddle boarding, water skiing, fun tubes & kayaking. We also went on a sunset cruise one of the evenings and enjoyed a glass of champagne and a wonderful sunset.
Whilst the evenings were lowkey there are various locations around the resort and we enjoyed live bands, starlight discos, movie nights on the beach and a resident DJ.
My daughter and I also enjoyed an afternoon at the Island Spa, it was truly amazing and after our treatments we relaxed by the oceanfront. Another huge highlight of Kuramathi Island is the Sandbank, it was as spectacular as it looked in photo and the kids absolutely loved it for the photo ops!!!
All in all, a very memorable and special holiday for the family that exceeded all of our expectations. As Island experiences go, I do not think you will find anywhere more beautiful and idyllic. A wonderful destination for that special occasion trip.
