Marvellous Mauritius

Mauritius evokes all that an exotic beach destination can offer and I wanted to experience it for myself! I had one particular hotel on my list of ’to-do-before-I-die' luxury hotel bucket list, so off we went in the middle of the wettest month, March.

Turns out it’s not that wet at all, and we were delighted to discover that even though it was 'rainy season' there was just one or two quick showers a day!

First stop was a few days at the 4-star Zilwa Attitude, where we had all inclusive bliss. What a fantastic ‘all-rounder’, set in the most beautiful lagoon with turquoise shallow water, absolute heaven!

The all-inclusive was truly all inclusive with all restaurants included; lots of watersports and a trip on the hotel glass bottom boat to the reef was really fun. There were many families, groups of friends and couples so really, this hotel suits everyone. It was a great base to explore the island of Mauritius. The Attitude Hotels are cute rustic Mauritian-owned resorts across the island and great if you're planning a honeymoon on a budget.

For the second half, we stayed at one of the best hotels ever (and part of one of the best luxury hotel brands) - The Oberoi Beach Resort Mauritius.

Wow! What an experience, from the room (aka Pavilion) to the incredible staff, the food (oh the food!) and the best cocktails I’ve ever tasted. Although there were a few families and the staff were wonderful with children, this is a much quieter resort and suitable for romantic occasions like your honeymoon, birthday or wedding anniversary. Did you know there is actually only a few adults only resorts in Mauritius?

To have a chance to upgrade for a few days, splitting the hotel stays was an inspired choice, however It’s not essential, most couples just opt for one resort.

Mauritius has miles and miles of beautiful beaches; there’s plenty of boat trips to beautiful tropical spots, the Black River Gorges National Park is a lovely day out and the capital is worth a half day city trip to markets and learn more about the history of this island nation.
